I’m all for technology and sports science helping players get prepared for games or giving them the best on-field strategy to win, but this is manipulating the tools of the game to win. They gotta ban those imo.So all those homers Yankees hit today...apparently they were using new special bats designed by their scientists that shift more wood into areas that are more likely to make contact. If that stays legal, it would revolutionarize baseball.
I could have swore that MLB had a rule that all bats had to be ordered (not made). So all those homers Yankees hit today...apparently they were using new special bats designed by their scientists that shift more wood into areas that are more likely to make contact. it's probably nothing but I sure hope those "special bats" aren't another sports team taking advantage of the rulebook to essentially cheat. League's should be able to trust teams to act in good faith. But if the special bats are a thing I hope the next team to play the Yankees shows the same level of sportsmanship and turns the lights out in the stadium when the Yankees are up to bat in the 9th with bases loaded. There isn't a specific rule against it so it's not cheating right?
Another rough look for Shatkins
I'll be completely honest. Fluharty has been the best lefty in ST the last two years. He was a better option but wasn't on the 40 man. That was a joke of a signing. What's the point? You need someone younger, more reliable. Of course he is going to spend more time on the IL than actually pitching. Nothing against Scherzer, but I mean you could see it coming.
If it’s good for the Yankees, it should be good for our Blue Jays. It's a Torpedo bat. Its legal size and weight. The old philosophy was undersize the barrel and increase wood density or weight. MIT guy fattened up the typical strike are to increase odds of contact and it looks like it's also going to send ball to either left or right field with that shape.
We should copy them.

This is going to be interesting to watch. From what i read, nothing about the bats the Yankees used was illegal. Essentially moving the sweet spot of the barrel is different from say, corking it since it's not changing the effectiveness of the entire thing. So all those homers Yankees hit today...apparently they were using new special bats designed by their scientists that shift more wood into areas that are more likely to make contact. Could be looking at a new age where teams/players start combing data to optimize their bats individually which would be wild.
Buncha nerds ruining the game! It's a Torpedo bat. Its legal size and weight. The old philosophy was undersize the barrel and increase wood density or weight. Caleb Joseph actually pointed out this isn't something that's a magic bullet like some people think it is during the usual screentime he gets. From league-wide reactions, it sounds like other organizations have already tried and tested new bats without much success. Yanks may have found the right recipe for some of their players but I think it's still too early to tell. I'm sure there's already testing being done behind the scenes to try and exploit their new bats, especially since all orgs would already have the data to see where players tend to make most of their contact on the bat.
Not to mention prioritizing other organizations ‘fungible arms’ over their own, for some reason. If Yariel can be a very good bullpen arm like he was today, that will be huge. A backend of Yariel, Yimi, Jeff, and Brendon is very solid. Also have Sandlin and Green.
I am glad Fluharty is up instead of Lovelady. This type of move is what drives me nuts about the organization. They keep crap players with little potential over a younger guy. They did make the move quickly, though.
Hopefully the bats can get some power next series.
