Pre-Game Talk: Wise Advice

Don't get this logic. Players want to play and be the best, not sit on the sides and only play against scrubs.
Exactly. If anything, not getting the chance to play is more likely to damage his confidence. This kid is old enough and experienced enough at the AHL level. He might be in over his head at the NHL level, but one game won't ruin him forever - and if it does, like others have said, he doesn't have what it takes. Give him the chance!

Probably because I'm old and from a different generation but confidence comes off as a weaksauce excuse.
At the end of the day, these guys are pros paid a lot of money to essentially play a game.

Granted, you dont want someone to be overconfident to the point its smfh..looking at you Stuart Skinner post games claiming you played well despite sub 800 save:laugh:

And destroy his confidence?

Not every goalie is like Skinner. Some actually persevere under pressure.

Don't get this logic. Players want to play and be the best, not sit on the sides and only play against scrubs.

It feels like management is so concerned about preserving Skinner's confidence that they don't realize that any goalie whose confidence needs that much preserving probably doesn't have the confidence or resilience to win it all.

This is the Oilers we're talking about.
Not sure what you mean when looking at games vs. San Jose over the last few years. Particularly games later in the year.

Yes if the Oilers didn’t win the games they won they sure would be in a predicament.
I know what you're getting at but it's not like I was going back to some random game months ago.

I was only using the last game as an example because it was literally minutes away from us potentially needing a strong finish to just lock in a playoff spot.

But yes they won, and as a result there aren't major concerns about playoffs now as 7 points is much tougher to make up in 9 games than 4 would have been. That was an important stretch of 5 minutes.

Oilers give us enough to worry about already without worrying about what ifs. Haha.

Lots of us did but lots of people didn’t want him.

Just shows what you what a joke the “what goalies are available” excuse is.

I believe you. About half the board was content with our goaltending on deadline day, including some people who were begging for a new goalie before and after deadline day. LOL. Never underestimate how gullible and blindly trusting of management so much of this fanbase is..
