Blue Jays Discussion: New Contract offer to Vladdy? Berrios opening Day pitcher

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

I liked it. Anything that can correct a bad call in a timely manner is good with me. I'd still prefer automated calls but it's a step in the right direction.

I'm not sure 2 challenges is enough. I know when tennis first brought in challenges it was 2 per set and they quickly realized that once you got 1 wrong the 2nd one was almost never used except in a break glass in case of emergencies type of situation. Wimbledon went to 3 and everyone else quickly followed their lead as it was obviously better. You also don't want too many challenges either, you might end up with a string of challenge in 1 inning that feels like it drags on rather than the quickness of 1 or 2. I didn't get a big enough sample in the spring but strategically once it really matters in a regular season or playoff setting I feel like teams would be incentivised to save their challenges for late game spots or high leverage early spots. Who cares if they got the call wrong on a 0-2 count with 2 outs and nobody on in the first kind of thing. For that reason I think I might prefer a spot where you get 1 in every 3 inning stretch(1-3, 4-6, 7-9) and they don't carryover so early missed calls will get reviewed rather than brushed off. That would eliminate the side effect of a bunch of challenges in 1 inning if you gave them more but you don't want to overcomplicate the system.
Perhaps the 2 challenges during innings 1-7, and you get an extra one past 8 innings if you had blown the first two. It could perhaps help correct a bad call late in games in critical situation. But you don't get an extra one if you still have any remaining.

As for challenging to often, was there a limit to how many times you could challenge, provided you keep winning? I don't recall it being discussed.

What does the board think of spring training's players option to challenge a called ball/strike
I saw a few and they were done vey quickly. Quicker than AAA challenges

I think it could work in the regular season and just maybe they could get rid of that strike zone box on TV.

I missed the strike zone box for the first few games, but then I realized how much less annoyed I was because I wasn't seeing the bad balls/strikes, and the players were challenging the really bad stuff and for the most part they were right.

Feel free to tell me to piss off, but I'm a big Jays fan and wouldn't mind shooting the shit with you guys in here a bit during the season!

(I'm a Bruins fan, so feel free to tell me my team sucks and to hit the road, I won't argue that)
I"m a Bruins fan and have been posting in here forever. One of the moderators in here is a sharks fan. As long as you leave hockey talk and comparisons out of here you're all good. Lots of fan of different hockey teams in here.

I was on the Boston board for some schedenfreude after a leaf win and imagine my surprise to see you there lol.

But yeah this is just about the jays and the raps thread does a good job of isolating the discussion towards just the raps as well.

Kirk strikes me as the type who on the surface, he looks like somebody who just vibes and is grateful for the life he has.

Dude has a beautiful family, gets to play a game for millions of dollars in one of North America's greatest cities all while looking like the pudgy kid who got picked last in gym class all the time.

Godspeed and god bless our short, stubby, pudgy pitch framing king.

Bo has always seemed like the guy that was going to test FA. It also seems like the FO didn’t love him. With the reported Acuna deal, going after other top SS.

FWIW, the call on Yarbrough had a lot to do with Scherzer being healthy.

Per Atkins, it would be too difficult to keep two relievers stretched out, so Lovelady vs Yarbrough was entirely about shorter appearances (and the possibility of Lovelady coming in against lefties specifically).

Once Vladdy signs, Bo will follow. That’s my belief. Come on, let’s get it done! It will be a beautiful day tomorrow if they announce Vladdy re-signing.
I'm anxiously awaiting some unexpected news tonight that the Jays have signed Vladdy to a long-term extension, just in time for tomorrow's season opener. I don't know how far along or apart they are, I just am wishfully thinking both sides come together and get it done. This team needs a serious jolt of optimism heading into this season and future.

Vladdy free agency looming over the team all season long will not be fun. I'm in no mood to be counting down the days/games remaining we get to see Vladdy in a Blue Jays uniform.
