There's always the thought that it's not just two years when you trade for someone like Dubois - unless that guy comes out and says he's going to UFA in two years. The value changes at that point.

Sure - but the acquiring team will still believe they can change his mind. Maybe they can. Or maybe we would be forced to let them talk to him first - in which case it may or may not fly, who knows?

Centre vs not centre.
5'11 vs 6'1 - don't want to make too much of size, but a C should have some weight.
Skating, though Perfetti has improved that. It is still not great.

I'm not convinced that Perfetti will be a C in the NHL. Not saying he won't either, but it is unknown. I'm not at all sure that Perfetti has more talent. That remains to be seen.

Lundell isn't anything special as a skater either so not sure why you bring that up. Perfetti isn't as developed physically as of yet but Lundell was seen as more NHL ready then most at the draft anyways.

Anyhow we are years out from knowing the answer to this. I don't see how not even three years after you can hold it on the org drafting a player that was expected by many to go top 5 in the draft.

As for positional need there are a number of successful teams with small number 1C's.. Tampa won b2b cups with Point as their 1C. Aho does quite well in Carolina. I have no doubt that Perfetti can grow into an impact center if that is the way the org chooses to go.

Just to add my two cents after having had a few days to digest the news that Trotz won't be coaching next year ... yes, it was extremely disappointing when I heard the news and my gut reaction was to be upset with Chevy/the Jets for allowing this to be drawn out like this and miss out on Cassidy.

However, after leaving time for that hot take to cool off, I appreciate that the Jets appeared to have gone all-in and pulled out the stops. My hope is that they made Trotz think twice, rather than he was leading them along with no intention of ever accepting.

There are still some intriguing options out there. I like what I've read about Montgomery on these boards.

My only hope is we don't go with Arniel. That just feels like it will be Claude Noel 2.0

I didn't vote in the poll because at this point I have no clue who the Jets ultimately hire.

Lundell turns like a cruise ship and his skating is why he was ranked in the high teens for the 2020 draft. He was always seen as more NHL ready than most but with less skill, and he proved why by playing a steady 3rd line centre role on a very good team that scored a lot of goals. Perfetti would have easily had .5 ++ ppg this year if he didn't get hurt. I think no doubt over their careers, Perfetti out produces Lundell by a significant margin. Now, Lundell is a for sure a centre and Perfetti may or may not be, but that doesn't change who is better over a career.

Also, I guess the NYR Rangers, LA Kings, Ottawa Sens, Anaheim Ducks, NJ Devils, Buffalo Sabres, Minnesota and Nashville all should have taken Lundell, not just the Jets as Lundell had a better season than those teams picks in the 2020 draft. The thing is all those drafted ahead of Lundell were drafted for their potential for their career, not for what they would do their rookie year.

What if that acquiring team is not the team he wants to extend with. If he wants to sign with Montreal, who shouldn't be competitive, why would they trade for him at the deadline?
I’d trade a signed PLD for their number one and for another useful player right now in a heartbeat.

The value of a marketable francophone star to Montreal goes far beyond the on-ice impact of a trade.

I like how the Trotz situation worked out. Now the Jets have an excuse to look beyond the coaching carousel.
Lol, the coach carousel of Arniel, Vincent, Carlyle and Dubois?

Me too. Unfortunately he's only going tonsign for 2 years max it seems. Who would pay the asking price right now?

PoMo being interviewed on CJOB right now...

I can't bring myself to listen. Any "highlights"?

Nah...it was pretty warm and fuzzy. Paul says we have a great team full of great pieces and we're gonna get a great new coach and everything's gonna be just fine.

So more of the PoMo line of BS. Man he sure says what people want to hear.

Here's a summary.

-He "enjoyed the snow and the rain"
-In March his son accepted into the University of Miami
-Bill Zito called him to ask if he was interested into coaching the Panthers
-Had one interview and was hired 3 days later
-He said he stepped down because "he needed to"
-Says Winnipeg was "special"
-Things turned for him mentally when they played Calgary in the bubble.
-He felt he was "losing his effectiveness" and couldn't "move the needle"
-Had discussions about it with True North last summer
-It was effecting him personally
-"I know they [the Jets] were getting a new coach" for 2022-23
-"They have lots of great pieces in Winnipeg"
-"They need a new voice"
-"You've got an exciting hockey team with high end skill who will be energized"
-"It's a good thing for the Winnipeg Jets"
-He was asked about the comments made by the players at the end of the season, he said "I can't answer that"
-He did not watch any Jets games after he quit
-He left because of his frustration about his "inability to move the team"
-"The discord that was reported was not a part of my experience"
-"The meetings we do at the end of the season are "incredibly raw"
-"I don't believe at all that some of the concerns are as significant as you think"

-Compares the Jets to the Tampa Bay Lightning:

"Take a look at the Tampa Bay Lightning, they went to the Stanley Cup Final and they had a great team and they also missed the playoffs right in them building a back to back sta- you know three times to the Finals, two Stanley Cups. I look at the Winnipeg Jets as far more close to what Tampa Bay went through then everyone saying Oh there's something wrong. There's nothing wrong they had a tough year."

-Takes responsibility for not making the playoffs.
-"They've got a hell of a team"
-"Things are really good in Winnipeg"
-"Any one of the names that have been bandied about [for head coach] will do a hell of a job there"
-"Come November all you guys are gonna be happy"
-Jets have "unbelievable ownership" "a very very bright management group" "everythings gonna be fine"
-Being coach of the Jets was "a wonderful part of my life"

As always a class act.
Wishing nothing but the best for him and his family.

Montreal...

Certainly worth their first...

PLD is a bonafide top centreman... and a francaphone instant favorite of Les Habitant fans...

And a bottom six player with more ability than what we have/had last year added in the deal...

If the smoke about PLD wanting to land in Montreal is true... PLD and Montreal get exactly what they want right away...

Jets get on with things... I'm all for that....

Montreal doesn't need to though. They can develop for 2 more years and sign him without giving up any assets in 2024.

No guarantees he signs with Montreal if they get outbid by another large market team.
Bird in the hand.

If it's about money, sure. If it's about playing in Montreal, as has been the rumour for awhile, then that won't matter
