I sure the hell hope Bettman goes apeshit over this. This is disgusting and inexcusable behavior.
Who do you think Gary works for? If the other billionaire owners aren't going apeshit, Gary won't.

Seems like Oiler fans were glowing lately with the trouble in Calgary. This is a big curveball.
Totally different. We were taking delight in players leaving. Most of us don't like Katz anyway, but this is the type of stink that doesn't wash out. Hopefully.

Now that it's public, there's no way Katz can settle it now and essentially admit guilt.

Sure he can that's how these things usually work out.

As they say it is what it is.

Also as pointed out above the age of consent in Canada is 16 (unless there is a position of authority which isn't the case here ) so while it will probably offend alot of people here there is no illegality going on with the ages involved.

Of course if it can be proven that there was an exploitation factor involved then it's a whole different matter but then the court (a criminal one not the civil one here about this case) would need to determine that beyond a reasonable doubt.

But I'm sure this thread will get ugly like the other current one as well and it is an ugly subject to be sure.

Ah I see, so there most likely won't be any legal actions outside of this then. Still really scummy however, he's probably not going to be looked too well, if he already hasn't been.

Can the league suspend an owner until this is sorted out and resolved through the courts?

I wouldn't think the league to force a sale or anything until after a decision is made by the court.

Nah, in the absolute best case this is proven and he goes to jail and the NHL forces him to sell the team. Katz going out the door is a net positive for the org. Too bad it's only a civil case.

Maybe he can borrow some of that Hockey Canada slush.

If Donald Sterling can be strong-armed into selling a team because he's an unabashed racist, you'd hope the NHL could force Katz out for this.

Just the latest in a series of black eyes for the NHL

usually when a team is looking for a new owner any trades are put on hold so the main way it could negatively affect the team itself is if the such a thing happens near the trade deadline.

Not going to downplay what Logan Mallioux did as it was terrible to share a picture without consent but when it happened and so many righteous people were calling for his head I said there’s way worse things out there than that and are being committed by people who aren’t making a juvenile mistake. Teams have Winston Wolfs to deal with these things and clean/cover up the messes

Those text messages are damning.
Katz’s lawyer is saying the $75,000 was for a potential movie but in the text message Katz tells the 17 year old to not mention the payment as it may be interpreted badly.
I don’t see how he stays on as owner given all the other things happening with hockey in Canada.

It's a accusation of a couple being sued for sex abuse. Katz lawyer says they paid her 75 k for a undeveloped movie project, unless they have more proof than a few texts nothing will come of it not matter how people interpret them.

Do I believe Katz and his lawyer though....not a chance.

Yep, it's shades of the same scandal he had a few years ago with another actress that worked for his production company. Can't help himself but try to buy employees left right and centre.

Thank you Darryl for moving the shit storm of this week uo the QE2.

Pretty cringe if true and illegal. Should have to sell if she was 17.
