The N64 has held up as badly as any system possible in my opinion, and I have zero interest in returning to those gaming dark ages.

The SNES, though...right in my nostalgia wheelhouse and it's going to kill me that I won't be able to find one (and I absolutely refuse to pay more than MSRP for basically anything).

Its still not expensive at all to get an actual SNES, Gameboy Advance or Wii U with virtual console and be able to play almost all the popular SNES titles.

If Nintendo were smart these SNES games would all find their way onto the Switch's pseudo-Netflix thing once it's up and running, but the first part of this sentence generally isn't something people can count on.

Holy **** you just spent multiple pages ranting about this. Shut the **** up about buying vintage consoles.

Its not even just nostalgia. I mean, I am nostalgic for N64 games, but I am not interested in an N64 classic.

There is a reason 2D side scrollers and top down adventure games are still being made almost 30 years after the SNES came out.

Explaining why I think it's pointless to get an SNES Classic and trying to help someone get to play the SNES games they want to play are two completely different things. That's too bad you don't see the difference and instead would rather just curse and attack me like a whiny 10 year old. That's why people post on a forum right? Is to discuss things. If that angers you maybe you should log out, turn off the computer and go upstairs and ask your mom for a waffle or something.

Why are you so bent out of shape? What did I say that was so bad? I suggested buying an SNES, Wii U or GBA to get some SNES games. Oh the horror!

Please curse me out some more. I deserve it for trying to help people find ways to play games they want to play.

That's not the point.

Whats the point then? You said you wont be able to get an SNES classic but you want one and refuse to pay over retail... suggesting you wont go to ebay or something to overpay for an SNES classic. There are plenty of ways to play great SNES games without an SNES classic.

Sorry for trying to help out?

Sheesh.

I wanted to get a NES classic as I never had a NES, but I've played most of the games I wanted to through re-issues (IE Super Mario All-Stars, etc.) or emulation.

This one is iffy, I still have my SNES and most of the games listed, but I really want Star Fox 2. Star Fox is one of my favorite SNES games.

I can't imagine Nintendo won't release SF2 in some capacity in the future outside of the SNES classic. It may be a while but maybe on the e-shop for Swiatch or 3DS or something.

OOPS!!!!
I apologize for talking about a different way to potentially play a game outside of buying an NES/SNES classic. Lord forgive me! :sarcasm:

I'd only really want to play it on the original SNES or SNES classic. Don't have a Wii U or Switch (although may get a Switch if they ever figure out how to support a classic games subscription service)

why are so many people trashing the 64? Yeah there are some games that haven't aged well (particularly Goldeneye and Turok) but Mariokart, Starfox, Rogue Squadron, Smash, Battletanks, Pokemon Snap, Podracer, Cruisn USA, Gretzky 99 etc etc are all just as good as they were during the Clinton administration

I found most of those games to be awful during the Clinton administration, for starters.

Great games! Haters gonna hate I guess.

Crusin USA was one of my favorite cabinet games and I had a blast with it in N64 as well. Another one not mentioned here was San Francisco Rush. I remember Battletanx being pretty intense as well.

Loved my 64. My first real home console as a kid. I was barely old enough to remember much of my Genesis other than playing NHL with my dad. Grandparents had the NES/SNES.

Other than Mario I think my most played game was Conker

PlayStation fans. SNES vs. Genesis was a fun console war, but PlayStation seemed to bring an elitist attitude that didn't exist before. It seemed like a fanboy thing started by people who couldn't afford both consoles.

I owned the n64 and never owned the PS1. I actually agree that the n64 aged poorly.

The PS1 has too but not as badly as the N64 imo. The gameplay mechanics were pretty inovative with Mario and Zelda and goldeneye, and they even had the original cover based 3rd person shooter on there with operation winback.

That said, theres just something awful and muddy looking about it that a resolution bump doesn't fix. I even tried turning off bilinear filtering in emulator, and that actually works for Mario 64 but it doesn't work for Yoshi story and mario Kart. If you're gonna play mario 64 play it on an emulator with Bilinear filtering turned off, its much easier on the eyes. It will break the sky mural in peaches castle but overall the game will be much more pleasing. It will look pixelated like a ps1 game, but honestly thats kind of my point.

Id argue PS1 aged worse than N64 but regardless that generation has aged poorly in general.

Agreed. Those load times and there wasn't anything on PS1 that was of the caliber that should be held in such high regard as something like Mario 64, Starfox 64 or Goldeneye.

Ahhh I am having flashbacks of arguments with my friends over the N64 and peoples hands looking blocky.

I love both systems and not in any war but PS1 had Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy VII, VIII and IX and even more I'd rank up there in my opinion. I am a big fan of JRPGs though. If you won't say VIII or IX, and even though I do like IX more than VII, VII had a huge impact.

I think I would agree that the PS1 was more for mature audiences with the FF's and Tomb Raiders and MGS's

But Mario, Zelda, Starfox and even Goldeneye aim at a much bigger audience. I personally am not an FF fan so I may be bias as well but I would bet more gamers play, have more experience with and like Mario's and Zelda's and relate nostalgia to them a lot more.

Maybe I am wrong.

The Metal Gear Solid series was huge in its time too. It was right up there with FF.

I feel bad for anyone who didn't get to enjoy both Metal Gear Solid and Ocarina of Time in 1998.
