  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Not at all, we have other fans comment here all the time. What you're doing is just... bordering on trolling?
I apologize if it did seem like trolling but I assure you I was not. I came in with concerns about the trade but also said I truly hope the trade works out for you guys. I’ve always enjoyed watching the Flames play since I was a kid and had many years cheering for them when Iggy was around.

But when I’m instantly called out for not knowing how to evaluate talent when I voice my concerns, I need to reply to it. Was just a very odd situation that randomly popped up outta nowhere

It definitely came across as trolling. Especially the part where you said "People just see that he was a very high pick and get excited"

Many of us here have talked about Nemec before. And a good chunk of us were pretty high on him dating back to when his name was brought up surrounding Markstrom and some of our other now sold off players.

Our fanbase has a lot of trust in Conroy and he's really only disappointed on the Hanifin trade. Our last two drafts have gotten rave reviews from experts so we also have high trust in our scouting department too. IMO the price we paid (especially after seeing what Chicago paid for Byram, and what San Jose was also offering for him) was more than fine. He fits our rebuild timeline great, and we need guys with that star potential. It's the one thing that Calgary severely lacks in their prospect pool.

Ya I’ve seen many people say things about fans getting excited due to draft position every year about players for a long time and I do think it’s true for a lot of fans of various players around the league. I’ve seen it lots about Nemec too and just like last year when Jiricek was traded a lot it came up about him.

Not a big deal though. I had zero intention of trolling. I’m not a fan of what Flames gave up for Nemec but I truly hope I’m wrong and he becomes a stud. Heck I even have him on my fantasy team cause I assumed he would eventually be dealt from NJ lol.. so I need him to excel in Calgary!

@Skinnyjimmy08 I've been letting others say things because I knew it was pointless for me to continue. L&D nailed it, Also when you accused me of being sensitive because I didn't like the trade...so when we're both being told we're only looking at draft position and also sensitive because we don't actually like the trade, really comes off as someone just trying to stir things up.

Personally I am loving seeing all the NJD fans saying Nemec will never reach his potential, can't play defense, is below-average at times, and etc. Pretty they all thought the exact opposite when they saw him thrive on the 1st pairing for stretches, scoring a hatty, and scoring several OT goals including the Game 3 OTG vs Carolina.

It's a natural reaction to giving up on a young player that they all thought was going to be a star for them. The more I look into this trade, I can't believe we landed a future top pairing D for two late firsts and a second.

Ten to one, all the guys singing bust today were the same guys this year who were like 'we need to find this guy more time'.

At the end of the day, Jersey got a Hughes brother, and tied their horses to that carriage. Nemec wasn't in a position he good free wheel like Luke Hughes, because it meant he was sitting in the pressbox. I think working with Bahl, the fact that he was in the same position in Jersey, will work wonders. Flames will have to find 22-23 minutes a night for Nemec and just live with it.

I saw NJ's roster was also devoid of Slovaks. If he was basically buried and miserable and had no countrymen to help cheer him up, I could see that contributing to it too.
Devils' defenseman Brenden Dillon spilled some information that sheds light on why the New Jersey hockey team, and its players' carreers, tanked in the 2025-2026 season. According to Dillon, there is no spirit of team togetherness in the dressing room. Dillon described the situation as "toxic" - the team is split into hostile factions. [My guess is : Hughes brothers and their friends against the rest of the team.]
This, together with taking into account the fact that the Devils' coach is incompetent when it comes to developing young prospects, explains to a degree why Nemec's progress as a hockey talent has stagnated.
Nemec has to play a lot of minutes, and not occasionally sit out 2-3 games because his coach wants to force him to become a stay-at-home defenseman and forget about joining an attack.

The Flames will have to trade some surplus players to have funds for Nemec.
What?

Brad Shaw is the coach who handles the defence in New Jersey.
The main coach Keefe 'sat' on Nemec, Keefe told his player [information from Nemec himself] that THE TEAM DOES NOT NEED ANOTHER OFFENSIVE DEFENESMAN, that Nemec has to learn how to stay in his team's end and just defend.

doesn't you underlining that 23/23 prove the point about making room for players since there are 2 RFAs not included in that number? If if you write off Beecher, that other one is Nemec, so it's at least a little important :P
I was referring to the funds part, idrc if a replacement level player gets cut. I fully expect us to make more moves anyways

RFA's if they were on the NHL roster last year still count towards that 23/23 until July 1st. Also pending UFA's, so Lombo, Bean, and Olofsson are part of that 23/23.

So in that 23/23 there are 3 UFA's and 2 RFA's (including Nemec), so we don't even need to worry too much about that roster spot.

EDIT: I was wrong, it lists 14 forwards and then has 16 listed, same with the D at 7 with 9 listed.

Either way, not worried, because at least one of Pachal/Hanley will get waived is my guess

underlining the roster players was more to show that we don't have spots to fill. With only 2 RFA's (on the NHL roster) and one maybe not even getting qualified, I'm not too worried about opening up the spot for Nemec's deal. And I'm definitely not worried about the cap space lol
