seems like the bigger issue is your ability to evaluate.
No need to get sensitive here. I’m giving my honest opinion. I quite like Calgary and always hope the best for them. Seems like a lot of people also agree with what I say all around this site and on tv too

Time will tell.. I assume you are a Flames fan so you will see when he arrives. I hope for the best for him and the Flames though

Usually when people get over sensitive with trades it’s cause they aren’t comfortable with what their team gave up. Nemec has potential forsure but I just haven’t seen it really YET

It definitely seems like it was a bad fit but I don't think he'll come that close to his 2nd overall pick potential. I really hope I'm wrong because it would be great if he did but I think @Bounces R Way is right and he probably ends up more like Hanifin/Andersson
Very possible he ends up being more of a Hanifin/Rasmus, but imo his upside is higher. That said, even if he ends up as a Hanifin/Rasmus, two late firsts and an early second for 5+ years of a young #3 RD is a great deal. It’s a very good bet imo — definitely some risk Nemec tops out as a 3/4, but worth betting on the upside, and still decent value in that scenario

I said it earlier, but I think it can’t be understated how difficult it is to evaluate young dmen like Nemec in a poor defensive system like New Jersey. Sure he could top out as a 35 pt #4 RHD in a worse case scenario (which IMO is the level he’s at), but he could also find another gear and be a 50-60 pt two-way #2 RHD. I love his transition game and the idea of pairing him with someone like Bahl. That’s gonna be a quality top-4 pair

How we feeling, chat? Absolutely love that this didn’t cost us anything we don’t already have in abundance. Won’t be disappointed if this means we snag Björck at #6 (I’m still team Carels) but for the first time in a long time as a Flames fan, I’m content with any one of myriad potential scenarios playing out. Sounds like we’ll be rolling Bahl/Nemec and Zayne/WCloud which I have zero problem with. Kuzy/Matta as our bottom pairing is low key crazy D depth. (EDIT: almost forgot about Brzusty!) The Saddledome swan song might not be as terrible hockey as some might think. Should be entertaining if nothing else.

LET CONNY FKN COOK 💪🏼🧑🏼‍🍳🔥

There are like 10 defensemen in the past 20 years with more NHL games played than Nemec before their 22nd birthday. We took a similar risk with Hanifin and it paid dividends.

We building the first ever team entirely consisted of RHD and LHS wingers

let's see some more of this tho:

Conroy on the FAN960

"Some people will say that I am crazy giving up this much draft capital... I can always go and get more draft capital."

Let him cook.

I f***ing loved this quote.
He’s right. He has a bunch of guys on the roster that teams will want.

The Devils gifting us our top pairing is kind of funny. This D corps is looking very promising. Lots of size and skill, all you want.

I know this doesn’t impact who they like on Friday at 6… but man, you have to think they might be looking forward, right? Unless they maybe don’t have term plans with Whitecloud?

I hope they can develop him properly. A lot of Devils fans seem to be glad he's gone.
Some of the numbers are pretty rough, but he was uniquely awful for 30 or so games in his second year. Like, truly spectacularly awful. The game against Winnipeg may have involved the worst period of hockey I've ever seen from a young defender lol.

But it was also 30 or so games. And he looked okay in the playoffs that year, oddly enough. His other two years are far more of a mixed bag. Some frustrating, some really nice. But the inconsistency really shouldn't be a shock.

I honestly have no idea if he's good or not. Neither outcome would surprise me at all at this juncture.

I hated the deal at first. I don't like the risk level given that we essentially traded the best picks from the Kadri, Andersson and Weegar trades combined.

I'd be happy to be wrong, and am probably over valuing late picks, and am less high on Nemec. Time will tell.

I think it’s a bunch of nothing tbh.

When we traded for Hamonic, we lost out on Dobson.

For Dougie, we could have taken Kyle Connor/Barzal etc.

This is just a bunch of likely late 1sts that won’t turn into anything special.

Hamonic trade was quickly a loss. Hamilton trade was at least par and allowed for a bigger trade for certain pieces.

Nemec trade I think we are at least at par if not ahead long run.

Seems like Calgary is a great place for him to develop. Lots of tape on guys like Hanifin, Zadorov, Giordano, Brodie, Andersson, Weegar etc. to really help Nemec fine tune his game and we play a system that allows Nemec to play his style vs a style he doesn't like. Plus Huska is very good at dmen development.

Bahl broke out after coming here and exceeded expectations. Here's hoping the same for Nemec.

Still processing how to feel about this but at least it means we won’t be taking Verhoeff

We have a ton of draft capital and none of these picks are particularly important I’m just not sure Nemec is the guy I’d be targeting. Hope he proves me wrong

Parekh + 6 to Sharks for 2? I dunno that would feel steep

But why? Parekh better not move unless a young C is available. Basically like the Ottawa trade for Eklund just now.

I think Morin needs more time so it'll be good for him to slowly develop for the Devils. Not sure how Tsplakov fits, but we shall see. I think this is a good quant for qual trade.

I've been thinking but I think I'm certain now, that Conroy is going to shake up the roster. I think this is going to be the first of several moves. I think we've all been assuming he's going to move some vets, but I also think Connie is going to quickly move quantity for some of the quality names out there right now. Interesting stuff.

I know Tsyplakov was a bit of a throw in here from Jersey’s perspective… but what are the plans with this guy? He’s making north of 2M, UFA after this season. Was absolute shite last year for two clubs after having a nice little intro to the NHL a couple years back.

We have a glut of mediocre wingers, this sort of just adds to it. Is he Wrangler bound?

Throw in is exactly how I'd describe him.

Not sure where he would fit on the roster to be honest. Maybe 3rd/4th line grinder type? Takes Olaffson's spot?

Doubt he's still here after this season ends.

I think he gets a shot for a roster spot. If he's even half of who he was in 2024-25 he's a decent bottom six option. Flip for a mid pick at the deadline.

My guess is that Conroy is committed to a major shake up. I think we will do a lot of forward roster players in quantity for quality trades. We might end up needing warm bodies while also making room for a few graduates.

Players I think are possibly on the table for the right trades right now:
- Coleman
- Frost
- Farabee
- Pospisil
- Zary
- Strome
- Rango?

That ignores bringing someone back or filling slots of the 3 expiring in Lomberg, Oloffsson and maybe Beecher. I also don't even think that guys like Klapka and Honzek are safe from discussion, though I'd maybe assume the Slovaks are safe(r) bets to stay with the recent Nemec trade.

There's some seriously good centre names on the trade market or if we can figure out how to secure someone like Malholtra in the draft by using draft capital.
