I agree - for me peak HFOil was during the 16-17 playoff run. Matching avatars and everything. The quality of discussion has become absolute trash here. Not worth wading through the endless stream of repetitive, uninformed and negative junk posting. Every thread gets hijacked by the same half dozen or so morons repeating the same shit over and over again. It’s really chased off a lot of the quality posters.
I joined an Oilers discord, only a few dozen posters, quite a few who have defected from HF I think, but it’s a good mix. Quality, knowledgeable discussion, posting is steady but not overwhelming and a few members who are really great for gathering all the tidbits on X and such to put them all in one place for posters like myself who aren’t so plugged in.
Regarding lack of posting interest, my biggest beef is when it gets personal towards the player. Everyone has either their favourite or a guy or three that they don't think is very good. That's fine and dandy. But when you start seeing stuff like, "he looks fat", or " I hate the way he tosses his hair back", or " he's trying to look like Fuhr with the white pads", or "I heard he selfishly wants to play every game". Silly and ridiculous. And the criticisms are focused soley at one individual repeatedly ad naseum, completely ignoring all other players or facets of the game.
I want to Picks to play well but I don't want him as my starter, if it can be helped. As I've repeatedly said, he's very good in his current role. Give the starter a relief here and there, and in cases of short term injury, be able to keep us above water. But I don't think we should take him out of his comfort zone. Like asking a bottom pairing d-man to play top 4 minutes. Which the Oilers are usually really good at doing, so who knows.Great work by Pickard to play well with three games in a row. Making key saves in tight games. Kings will be a big test for him.
Earlier this season I felt he had a chance to make a case for himself as the starter and failed twice.
Oct 12 vs Chicago
After getting embarrassed 6-0 in the home opener against Winnipeg, the Oilers elected to let Pickard start game 2.
He gave up 5 goals.
March 4th vs Anaheim
Pickard pulled the team out of a bad 5 game losing streak by backstopping the team to a hard fought win over Carrolina. Instead of returning to Skinner they let PIckard start a second game in a row.
Pickard then gave up four goals in the first period.
His first start after the Skinner injury they got shelled by Seattle. Not inspiring either, but that I'll blame on the entire team being checked out.
Expectations were much lower then, and we were still in the honeymoon phase of McDrai. The pressure to win now seems to have stressed a few people to lose their former reason and common courtesy. Not saying that is an excuse, but is a reason I think is contributing, IMHO.I agree - for me peak HFOil was during the 16-17 playoff run. Matching avatars and everything.
Unfortunately, that won't happen, if you don't count Kane as part of the full squad. But yes, if the rest of the pieces are there and healthy, for sure.Couldn't keep my eyes open so had to finish the game today. Nice win.
There was no chance Drai was coming back even if it's a really minor injury, which hopefully it is. He likely gets another week off here. Hopefully he's good to go before the end of the season. I'd really like to see this team play games with a full squad before game 1.
Agreed-- I think Stu has played poorly but I don't give a hoot what he looks like. I'm sure he and all the Oilers would be just fine if you met them in person. In the end its just a hockey game and when you look at the world this morning it isn't all that important. It's supposed to be an escape.
We need to calm down on the site. Use the ignore feature if you don't like a guy. I use it and I'm sure some other guys have blocked me too. That's fair because 80% of what we read on the site is just opinion and nothing more.
That's yet another comment that's been posted about 1000 times or more. We get it people, don't need reminding every bad game or goal that goes in.I must admit, it started as a joke for me due to CROTT randomly shitting on Pickard, and then Pickard seemed to prevent all possible rebounds for the rest of the game and made saves on shots that others have said were impossible to stop, and well...the whole thing just snowballed from there.
Also, fire Dustin Schwartz.
Yes, I meant not including Kane, which is unfortunate. I assume once ready, he starts on the 4th line and plays under 10 minutes per game until he's up to speed and they know they can rely on him.Unfortunately, that won't happen, if you don't count Kane as part of the full squad. But yes, if the rest of the pieces are there and healthy, for sure.
Let’s not act like you are above it.In the same post you're referring to toxicity here you call somebody delusional.
Protas is outlier. The only one, and I said that. The others aren't. They are in range of what they could reasonably be expected to produce. Save your drivel. You don't even comprehend what production range is in relation to playing alongside good players. Of course STrome putting up 65pts with iffy linemates in the past means he can do better with better linemates. Of course it also means that in prime years production can increase, and can be expected. That you actually think the Strome results are outlier is on you.
Caps got players like Strome, Dubois, Chychrun because they knew exactly what they could do. Then big minds like you braying its all luck and outlier.
lol at somebody being so thick they call OV goalscoring Outlier. Try having a clue. A lot of OV goals this season empty netters as well as his game being awakened playing on an again strong team.
But as per usual in your posting you self define your own facts and reality including OV scoring goals being somehow outlier. Stupidest thing I've heard stated online. . lol
Thank goodness. I didn’t think it was serious but there’s always a chance.Sounds like Drai injury not too serious. Miss a game or two but expected back before playoffs. And holy hell is that good news because he's been an absolute pleasure to watch this year. Just non-stop dominance almost every single game. My favourite player to watch and it's not close.
