Other Sports: NCAA Thread v12

If they bring most of the offense back, Penn St's season will swing on what they do at WR. It was my big concern coming into the year and it's a miracle they got as far as they did with this team comp.

It is inordinately difficult to play QB or call plays in 2024 when none of your WRs can win. It means you don't get easy plays.

It sucks because I think if they had a Jahan Dotson (college version) type of talent at WR on the outside they probably win some of these big games the last two years.

It’s basically been the opposite of the Barkley era where they had talent at the skill positions to work around the deficiencies to some degree along the LOS & lack of game breaking talents on defense.

It’s pretty much a major weakness for all three teams that were likely to head out of this bracket (Notre Dame, Penn State, & Georgia). It’s why they all are/were a bad matchup for Ohio State if their coaching staff actually stays committed to throwing the football. Ohio State can match their strengths (defense & running the ball) but they have a card with their passing attack that the others just don’t have because of their talent at WR.

Texas is probably the best shot at taking Ohio State down if anybody is gonna do it because they do have the talent at WR to at least keep up. Ewers is obviously a wild card in all of this.

Ohio State had ridiculous success rate in their first two games of the playoffs now that likely just isn’t sustainable over a four game stretch but they can still take it all even with leveling off some.
Texas has the best shot at beating OSU because they have the best secondary left in the playoff and they limit explosives as good as any defense in the country. They can control the LOS with four guys as well. I think they have an outside shot at beating OSU tonight.

Regardless, tonight's game is probably the default national championship, even if ND matches up better stylistically with Texas.

PSU has the same problem as UGA. They have no outside threats, which forces their entire offense to work from the inside out. Every offensive drive just feels laborious.
