NCAA commits USHL to OHL

If OHL fan bases post their player(s) who have transferred or could potentially transfer to the OHL, this would be a useful, quick reference thread for accessing league-wide information on players coming (or going).

NIAGARA ICEDOGS

NONE (Darren DeDobbelaer)
2023 DRAFT: 2007s NONE (Darren DeDobbelaer)

Just an FYI: No chance any 2005 IceDog prospects play in the OHL. They all told DD two years ago, no OHL.

BCHL players are still unable to play CHL regardless of this ruling.
Hockey Canada will not allow them to play CHL.

Now Noah Kosick signed with Sherwood Park in April. Never played for them but like I said, did sign. Played a few games in the USHL before going to Calgary in the WHL. Was he ok because he didn't play a game in the BCHL?

Long as he didn’t step on the ice in a game he’s fine.

Hockey Canada will not allow them to play CHL.

So how does that work? For example, if a BCHL player is ineligible to play in the CHL because of Hockey Canada, how does a CHL team trade the rights of a player that is ineligible to play in the league? At what point would BCHL players be eligible to play CHL? Next season? Never?

Hockey Canada has banned every player that plays in an outlaw league (BCHL)
HC would have to remove the ban and change their stance.
I doubt it happens as they are not going to fold to kids that avoided paying HC their fees.
Plus they don’t want to reward the BCHL in any way.

But that doesn’t answer the question. How can a CHL team trade a banned player? AND, if they are banned and need to be removed from being banned, how is that any different than Pete Rose?…meaning, the players are technically never allowed to play in any Team Canada sanctioned event ever for the duration of time unless the ban is lifted. In light of that, what is your sense of how the ban will be handled? Do you think it would be revisited every year? For example, if Malhotra were to play NCAA in 2026-27, would Hockey Canada remove the ban because he is no longer participating an an outlaw league or would they simply wait for him to apply to have the ban removed?

its the next season. they have until sept 30th to leave the bchl or any other outlaw league and come back into a sanctioned league. after that, its a 1 year ban and restarts the following season.

they apply to get back in the following season, which i think everyone gets

So, if Malhotra wants to play in the CHL, he simply comes back next year and Team Canada pretty much treats it as a courtesy ban lift. In other words, there is no real ban. He is just ineligible for the remainder of this season.

correct. it was a pure lifetime ban 10 years or so ago, but i think the Canadian competition board started sniffing around about unfair business practices, so they loosened everything up, its probably more fair now vs what it was.

he left before the sept 30th date. and to be honest, once he signed with the ohl his jr a card became null and void.
