As I said before, a highly motivated RJ Barrett with the 3rd pick of the draft is great value for the Knicks.

that's if they keep him. He's going to be shopped for sure to New Orleans and I'm pretty sure the Knicks are willing to give up everything to have a trio of KD Kyrie & AD including shipping out Robinson, Knox, DSJ, and future draft picks. They can get AD and keep Robinson it'll be a small miracle

2019 3rd pick, 2021 Mavs first rounder, Knox and DSJ would be a pretty good offer for a New Orleans team that doesn’t have a ton of leverage in the situation.

Their situation is that AD is walking next summer and they're going to get nothing in return. So they have to trade him sometime between now and the 2019-20 trade deadline, and it has to be to a team that both has the cap space for him and is a place that AD is willing to extend with. The Knicks have to offer something better than any of those prospective teams - that is the leverage the Pelicans have. Lakers are the main competition, but NO would rather ship him out of the conference and really don't like giving the Lakers anything

This is gonna play out like the Kevin Love trade. Draft the player, hold them for a month and deal them after the date passes before they become eligible. Either the Lakers or the Knicks will have this.

Something AD will be able to see is where players are signed. He can then pick a spot to play with whoever he wants to. He'll know where all the top FA land and where his best opportunity is. Depending on those moves, more team than LA, Boston, or the Knicks will open up.

We're gonna be waiting a while on this move, all while New Orleans stays in his ear about how they'll have Zion moving forward and to stay with them.

would be an absolute crazy story but i can't seem him doing it...if anything he might threaten to go back to duke to force a trade, but i can't see him actually going back and giving up the $$

Hypothetically, if Zion forces the Pelicans hand, what could the Knicks trade to get his rights?

Like someone said, I can see Zion threatened to go back to Duke, but for him to actually do so? Not so sure about that.

Pick 3 and Knox.

Not so crazy, he would be losing 10M in his first year salary but he's easily going to be losing a lot more than that in endorsements over 5 years in New Orleans. He would never go back though, the Pelicans would trade him instead of settling for Morant

But there is no actual talk of him doing that, it's all media/fan speculation

I'm as disappointed as anyone else not getting Zion, but I'm choosing to be optimistic. RJ Barrett looks like he's going to be a helluva player. Bring him in along with KD and Irving and the Knicks bench and you have a team that can really start to compete.

That being said, the economics of New Orleans winning the Zion lottery is really fascinating.

It’s staggering. Just look at their ticket sales already. One bounce of a ping pong ball completely changed the direction of that franchise.

That's because basketball is a f***ed up sport.

Pro roster sizes:
53 Football
25 Baseball (grows to 40)
23 Hockey
15 Basketball

Not only is the roster only 15 in the NBA, but only about 8-10 of those play something like 80% of the minutes. So one superstar athlete has a massive effect of on the team and there aren't enough of them to go around.

The main problem is too many teams, the league should be more like 20 instead of 30

Looking at the current odds to win the title next year, Warriors are obvious favorites but Knicks are still about 16-1, Lakers moved to 16-1 so the lottery favorites for next year include media powerhouses minnesota, charlotte, orlando and phoenix. It would take a miracle for a team like the Bulls to land the #1 pick. Zion is probably more likely to get hit by a car. This is one of those rare occasions that "stay in school" is bad advice.
