Phil is gone but the Knicks don't get any better as a result. This means Melo has held his ground and isn't going anywhere, so (1) bad role model for KP is still here, (2) ball dead end is here to stay, (3) no rebuild. Not to mention we're stuck with Noah's contract and seriously do you trust Dolan to make the right hire for the next president?

Say hello to King Dolan's royal return

Jackson was like Scotty Bowman. Great coach with great players. Lousy executive when it came time to pick the players. Jackson was a detached executive. He wouldn't talk to other executives. How does that work? He wanted to use the stupid triangle. No NBA team besides the Knicks uses the triangle offense. Triple post offense. Not even the Jackson disciples use the triangle. Steve Kerr. Luke Walton. Kerr uses certain principles of the triangle but not the triangle. Jackson didn't allow the coach to run the team. He wanted to coach the coaches. Hire the coach and allow him to run the team. Play whatever system they want. Biggest issue. He wanted to hire a coach to run his system. Hornacek agreed to incorporate the triangle. The feud with Carmelo. Jackson gave him a no trade clause. His health is another issue. Jackson fell asleep during Malik Monk's workout. He has a bad hip and the medication makes him sleepy. They tried the quick fix route. It never works.

Only Dolan and the Knicks could screw up dumping Jackson. Had the chance to dump him for free in April but didn't. Had the chance to dump him before the draft before picking a triangle guy but didn't. Now they canned Phil to hire someone who would have drafted someone else.

This.

Someone else who will probably give Hornacek a year and then fire him for their guy.

Which may be the right move, but the franchise is just a revolving door of coaches. There's zero stability.

That mistake only cost the Knicks $24 million, chump change right?

If Dolan was an intelligent man he would hire Hinkie before noon today.

Unfortunately he is a rich moron, so bring on Isiah Thomas.

I can just imagine people paying $1,000 per game being thrilled watching a decade of the Knicks winning like 12 games a year. And I'd pump the breaks on Hinkie being some sort of genius until the Sixers, you know, actually start to win games.

People have been paying insane prices to watch the Knicks suck for decades at this point. What's the difference if they suck a little more than usual?

If someone is giving up those seats (or a suite) it's not because of how the knicks are doing. I sat in $450 seats for a game last season (row right behind the suites on center court) and the person who has them rarely goes to any games.

I said it the day he was hired, horrible fit for the Knicks, they need a new voice someone young and hungry to win.

Never thought he'd be worse than Sathers first 5 years in New York, but I knew it was a Satheresque type hiring and knew it would fail.

It was time for Phil to go. Not sure why they waited until after the draft to fire him, but that seems par for the course for the Knicks.

There's a difference between being bad and trying to put out as uncompetitive a team as humanly possible. And as I pointed out there's no guarantee that works.

In Dolan's defense, he had some JD and the Straight Shot dates to navigate before making this decision

This. Jackson was a great coach when given great players. He did not have the executive chops to begin with.

It'd be as stupid as Sather coaching the Rangers.....oh wait...

We are so fortunate Dolan doesn't care about hockey.

It is pretty remarkable how badly he is getting destroyed all over sports talk. It is like the Knicks are his middle school science project. But when it comes to the Rangers._. Well it isn't farfetched to call him one of the best owners in hockey. Mostly because he never interferes and foots the bill to rid the organisation of Sather's mistakes.

Really the only time I remember him acting in capacity as owner was to seal the deal on Richards and that one time during the 2012 season he crashed a Tortorella post game presser to say we were winning the Cup that year. Torts was not too pleased.

It is extremely far fetched. He is a terrible owner who continuously allowed Glen Sather to get away with horrendous move after horrendous move without consequence.

After Phil totally lost his marbles and started talking about moving KP, the only logical option was getting him out of here.

At least we got KP and Willy out of the Phil experiment....

Can you imagine Dolan banning Ron Greschner from MSG? He probably wouldn't even know who he was.

Horrendous move after move= spending money (in hopes) to improve the team. ..

That is what we call #firstworldproblems.

How would you like to have a broke owner like Ottawa and had to let go of every good player you ever had (Yashin, Chara, Heatley, Spezza, probably Karlsson in a few years)?

He was clearly dead-set on getting rid of Melo and Dolan loves him some Melo. Only reason that makes any sense. Almost makes the Nets look like a competent organization. Almost.

Haven't media people debunked this? I thought there was an article or multiple articles over the years explaining that he's actually very invested in the Rangers success, just in a much more behind the scenes way then basketball?

So officially this draft pick is a nothing.
The team has no direction.
The GM is an accountant.
The coach hates his job.
The star wants to be bought out.
The future star thinks he has 5 rings.
Whatever
