you don’t say….

pretty brutal that his contract wasn’t insured because it would haven been too expensive IF they could have found a company willing….
You'd think the contract being uninsurable would've been a clue that it wasn't a good idea, but I guess the Lerners figured they'd be able to sell the team before the inevitable happened.
Strass did his job. He brought DC a baseball championship, which was a looooong time coming
He signed that contract after the WS.

That wasn’t my point. He still did his job for his franchise. He was the main reason they won the Series in 19.

I played ultimate frisbee for several decades, a few years of which were played at a pretty, high competitive level. And, like most good ulti players, I had a good forehand wrist flick and overhead hammer to complement the conventional backhand throw. People would ask how much of a good full-field forehand huck is in the wrist and how much is in the forearm - and the answer from me would be I have no real idea. But I know how to doubt from having honed it for a long, long time. Haven't really go there with certain parts of the golf game, but still striving

Spot on. Good analogy.

The sports psyche book I'm currently listening to has some good stuff and some of the usual shit (affirmations, writing down shit you've done, etc) but in discussing this exact topic the author casually threw out a phrase that I thought was excellent and unique: "informed instinctiveness".

God damn, that's just great.

Never played UF but disc golf. Even though the discs are different the throwing mechanics/principles should be the same. Overhead is my strong suit with control for the shorter drives and approach shots. Side arm though my best drive though always struggled with control on the real long ones. Backhand was always my worst for distance though did finally figure it out it in making sure to use my hips and pull the disc through close to the body.

Scheffler is just unsinkable right now. Made the cut on the number and is now 1 back of the lead at Muirfield. He's nearly dead last in putting this week!
Oh he’s sinkable….on the greens. Tee to green…..he’s absurd right now. I heard them say +19 to the field tee to green at one point….-9 on the green.

Welcome to the LPGA Rose Zhang…..leaves Stanford and wins in her LPGA debut…..only the 2nd EVER to win an LPGA debut in 73 years.

Yeah I watched her bogey 18 to slip into a playoff, make a very similar putt on the first playoff hole as she missed on 18 to stay in it, and then hit a hybrid from about 180 to 6 feet on the 2nd playoff hole to apply pressure that Kupcho, who was 35 yards closer, wilted under.

Overall, incredibly impressive performance that hopefully will be huge for women’s golf.

IIRC she had a similar bit of shakiness at the NCAAs and also held on.

Got to be huge for confidence to do that early on.

That hybrid approach on the last playoff hole was a beauty. Kupcho dusted her off the tee Then gagged.

This feels slightly different than the usual Bullets moving of deck chairs, no?
Does to me. Though would still be very normal 'Zards to roll with a Beal/Kuzma/Unicorn this year so really curious to see what this new front office will do roster construction-wise versus a complete rebuild. Me I'm ready for an OKC-type really suck to rebuild.

Completely out of left field. A for-profit enterprise, and I guess with one of the PIF guys as top dog? Christ.

Morikawa has already tweeted that he didn't know anything about this. How many of the players even knew this was coming?

I've got to imagine this will test the notion of whether the Tour is actually player run. I don't think they'll back out of this merger, but I can't imagine any of those that took bullets and monetary losses for the Tour would be ok with Monahan remaining as CEO. Apparently almost none of them knew.

Maybe Rory? Would explain the radio silence on LIV and his visual emotional struggles.

You'd have to think he was one of the few who knew. Monahan is hosting a player's meeting this afternoon at the Canadian Open, so I'm excited to hear what comes out from that. Should be spicy.

I'm not getting much work done today.

Supposedly this was all done in secret with only a handful of people at the top, so the players had no idea this was coming. Most found out via Twitter.

PGA Tour will have majority stake so it's a compromise by LIV, which was probably the goal all along. The PGA may have had leverage in terms of the possibility of some damaging information coming out during discovery in a long trial, but LIV had the advantage in financial stamina. I think the latter is one reason the PGA gave in and struck a deal.

Shades of AFL/NFL merger over 50yrs ago with the general dynamic.

I have a feeling Norman got what he want which was a seat at the table of the PGA Tour, and the Saudis got what they wanted which was a large financial stake to further their expansion into the top sports markets for their sportswashing and general ego-driven ostentatiousness.

I've seen what it's like when scheming people throw a lot of money and flash at a project with intent to get a foot in the ownership door. The long-term result is not always great. I suspect Norman and maybe the Tour will eventually find the road rougher than expected, but the players should benefit financially as long as they don't watch the news.
