You're making an incorrect assumption that everybody in Columbus is an unemployed ideologue who trolls Dispatch.com

If the deal is sensible, the majority will support it. 25-50 ******** on dispatch.com isn't a very good sample.

So if the Arena issue vote were held again today, do you believe a majority would vote FOR it this time... in this economy?

Conversely, if for some reason the same levy was needed to support the Buckeyes (yes I know it'd never happen) but do you think it would pass.

For all of the nay sayers who are against public money going to this project I have just one question for them: How will THEY produce the jobs lost IF the team moves? You can *****, moan, and complain all you want, but until you come up with a better idea to keep the jobs in the Arena District, it seems to me that THE ONLY ANSWER is to keep the BlueJackets where they are at and find a solution to the lease issue. I remain hopeful

Reading the negativity and the idiots on the dispatch.com article make me lose all hope in society...don't they get it?

On the other hand, I am THRILLED!! As a taxpayer, fan of the Blue Jackets and proud citizen of the City of Columbus....just thrilled! :handclap::handclap:

I'm trying to figure out if it's time to be thrilled or not. Is this done or still just a proposal? It's hard to tell from the different articles out there.

A vote from the Franklin County Commissioners and the Columbus City Council

As per my earlier post, a question for those politicians who may think of voting no:

"If you are going to vote no on this proposal, please specify your plan on keeping and creating jobs in the Arena District?"

Not to be repetitive, but this is the definitive question that the naysayers need to answer. If they can not answer this basic question, then they can not be taken seriously. This issue is certainly about keeping the Blue Jackets, but the bigger picture is about keeping and creating jobs in a now vibrant area. The people who will be vocal opponents also need to be held accountable. Keep THEIR feet to the fire.

Just conjecture here, and I may be totally offbase, but my thinking is that if the lawyer who brokered this deal was put there by local government, then he probably has a good idea that this will pass, because he would be working behind the scenes to ensure that not only Nationwide and the Jackets are on board with this, but also the government officials.

I think you're spot on. This is the same idea that has been talked about for MONTHS, but yet it's taken this long to announce? I suspect all the ducks are in a row.

Here is the info from the Dispatch:

Casino tax revenues would finance the public purchase of Nationwide Arena, under a proposed deal announced this afternoon. Franklin County and Columbus would pledge up to a third of the tax revenue they collect from the Hollywood Casino on the West Side through 2039 to finance the $42.5 million purchase of the arena from Nationwide Realty Investors and pay to operate it, said John Rosenberger, a lawyer hired by Columbus and the county in 2009 to negotiate an arena deal. The Franklin County Convention Facilities Authority would own the arena.

It sounds pretty much a done deal to me

Of course, nothing is final until the i's are dotted and t's are crossed

Yup, I feel the same way. He was brought in to negotiate the deal that would keep the team in Columbus. This proposal only goes public if there's near 100% certainty that it will pass.

If you think police, fire, school funding and the state budget aren't part of this discussion, you haven't been paying attention. Just watch what the naysayers use as their ammunition.

The only really discussion is franklin county for those items. There is a loan from the state that shouldn't impact any of those items.

The reality is the city of Columbus just hiked my taxes to play for those items above. To try and say the only way we can continue to pay for those is through the casino tax revenue, that will be a flat out lie. That money will end up in the general budget paying for whatever pet project comes along that day, until they run out of revenue again in which case they will put those necessary services on the block again to scare us into allowing another tax increase.

At least I know what this scam is. I can sleep easier when I know what the scam is that I helped pay for. Finally I might get a scam payed for that I can get some enjoyment out of... :p
