To pick Henderson, Maguire, and Phillips (the latter of whom haven’t touched a ball all season) because they’ve “historically been great for England” but to keep Sterling out as he’s re-entering form and has also been historically good and important for England just truly makes no sense.

Sam Johnstone over Nick Pope is also weird, but a third keeper is there as a training ground presence and if he’s good in that context then it makes sense.

Nketiah call up bugs me, because it’s just a cynical cap tie. He’ll never break double digits for England appearances when he could be a talisman for Ghana.

I hope that Shaw’s injury gives Chilwell a chance to seal a spot

Goalie : no argument. Chevalier should come soon. Areola is in form. Samba is 3rd and deserves to be. Chevalier would probably benefit more from being 3rd at his age than Samba though.

Defensemen : Disasi is LOL. Guy has no business being here and DD's love for him is just weird. Pavard, what can I say I haven't said yet? Todibo should be here, but it's tough to leave any CB out of that list if Disasi is considered a RB. If he's considered a CB, then by all means, it's scandalous.

Midfielders : zero argument, everyone is here. Kante is gone. Pogba too. We have better options than Fofana, but he's part of the usual setup.

Forwards : Giroud is OLD as shit, but I guess he'll play until he decides he won't. Thuram is meh to me and I would like to see someone like Cherki here, but it won't happen.

Germany is back:

bout time...

Will be interesting to see what Flick does at FB. Groß and Hofmann could both be interesting rivals to Henrichs & Gosens, Süle and Thiaw have played RB before, I think Schlotterbeck could play LB...and there's always the Kimmich option.

I think my preferred 11 would be:

Füllkrug
Sane - Musiala - Wirtz - Havertz
Can
Kimmich - Schlotterbeck* - Rüdiger* - Henrichs/Groß*
ter Stegen
Though I'd expect something more along the lines of:

Füllkrug
Sane - Musiala/Wirtz - Havertz
Can - Kimmich/Gundogan
Gosens - Schlotterbeck* - Rüdiger* - Henrichs*
ter Stegen

Don’t like Konate getting picked. He isn’t near 100% healthy. No one expecting him to play on Sunday

Deschamps hinting that Zaire Emery will soon reach the NT. WOW.

Why not? You're loaded in the midfield, but he has a creativity & panache that the Cama & Tchou's of your squad don't.

Same reason I think we should start integrating Martel asap. Kid just has a skillset that our midfield needs, he's already playing very well for his club, and his ceiling is just so much higher than Can or Khedira's.

Because DD selecting a 17 year old would be unheard of.
And you forget the Thurams and Kones. Among others. We have tons of depth at 8.

I meant if we were DD, why not? He may be afraid of thrusting kids into big roles like that, but I'm not if I don't think it'll halter the kid's development.

You know I rate Kone and Thuram, but they're not as crafty and elegant as WZE. Kone may be as clever at wiggling out of a crowd, but I haven't seen the same kinds of flashes of passing genius. Not saying Zaire Emery is better than all of your other options, just that he provides something different.

It's similar to how Can (or Khedira/Martel) doesn't need to be a better midfielder than Musiala, Wirtz, Kimmich, Gundogan, or Goretzka to make us a better team when he's starting in the midfield alongside those other options. Or how Füllkrug doesn't need to be a better attacker than Musiala, Wirtz, Sane, or Havertz to make us better when he starts for one of them in our front 4.

Now it's different because Can & Füllkrug are coming off the seasons of their lives and might never reach those levels again, whereas WZE is on the rise and should surpass his current level still, but each provides their respective teams with a different dynamic in a part of the pitch where we already have a ton of talent.

Speaking of Füllkrug, he has had to withdraw from these friendlies. Which is lame since these were supposed to be our glimpse of what this team can look like at full-force, when not experimenting. Hopefully we can at least find the right balance defensively, because I'm not too worried about the offense delivering when Nic is back.

I'm really excited about Brazil's future as I haven't been for years. Fernando Diniz is the epitome of how we always played the game. He can bring back that football that all the world loved to watch us play. Of course, we still don't have anywhere close to the talent of the heydays

Diniz has always made weaker sides play beautiful and competitive football. What he did with a mediocre Sao Paulo FC squad then all he's got out of Fluminense this season... he deserves to thrive as our NT coach.

I hope he does well enough so CBF shakes off that Ancelotti dream.

this video is great of how his team plays but not entirely true regarding Ganso. Diniz had no one similar to Ganso in his time as SP coach and the team did very well. His attck midfielders were Igor Gomes (good but very run of the mill guy) and Gabriel Sara (playing great at Norwich right now but not a classic 10 like Ganso). Diniz knows that Brazilian players play better in tight space, with more guys to play with, like Firmino used to shine with his quick passes and encharges with Salah/Mane.

With Musiala withdrawing too, I think I'd like to see:

Sane - Havertz - Wirtz
Kimmich - Gundogan
Can
Gosens - Schlotterbeck - Thiaw - Henrichs
ter Stegen

Bench

Hofmann - Schade/Müller - Gnabry
Brandt - Nmecha
Groß
- Süle/Tah - Rüdiger -
Trapp/Baumann
