Respect. I'm too addicted to ignore it completely. Maybe if Jogi hadn't stepped down, but I can't help myself with this team now that Flick is around to integrate our youth...especially if Wirtz recovers in time, while Neuer doesn't.

I won't pay for it, but I will watch.

Bierhoff is still part of the management. It still feels like a commercial construct and I've grown to care less and less about the national team over the years (I followed every WC since 1994).
Add on top of that the whole Qatar thing (there is a great documentary in german available from the german national television which turns your stomach) and I really dont want to have anything to do with it.

Like I said, respect.

I just watch too much youth football not to be hyped about having a quality NT coach who is willing to integrate that exciting youth.

This World Cup can be compared to the 1978 one in Argentina which was at the time ruled by a military junta responsible for murdering thousands of people.

Johan Cruyiff didn't go there citing that as a reason.

Bad mouths say that was a suitable excuse as he had some personal issues at the time but he didn't go there.

Are there any notable players this time not going to Qatar because of the whole thing stinks? I haven't heard of any.

Having to build 8 world class stadiums from the ground up definitely has something to do with the cost of this World Cup

They essential had to build cities for a micro state to host an event of this magnitude so its not rally surprise.

Yup, lots of investment needed to get things going. I wonder what they do with all the new infrastructure following the tournament.

Same with what brasil and the rest do host smaller tornaments (Asian cup is there or the gulf cup I forget) than the stadiums become a toilet for birds

Besides, how could this tournament been awarded 12 years in advance in 2010? Yet we don't know now who hosts the 2030 tournament. Less than 8 years away.

Because there is a lot more attention being paid to FIFA's selection process than there was in 2010; so they need to be a lot more careful to avoid going to jail.

Though he didn't appear on Bild's 44, Grisha Prömel was apparently told that he's made Flick's list.

Stach is my preferred candidate for that 4th midfield spot behind Kimmich, Goretzka, & Gundogan. With Andrich & Khedira being my picks if we want a vet instead of the young fella. But Grisha certainly deserves to make the pre-tourney camp.

We need game threads as well once things get closer for reasons that will be apparent once the day gets here. But no hurry.

Then and there
Vincenzo Grifo continues his red hot form for both club and country. Goal and assist already by him for Italy against Albania under half an hour.

Edit: Damn, Tonali falls down on his head/neck after jumping for a ball with an Albanian player and is stretchered off with a necksupport. Hopefully, nothing too serious.

Yeah that Tonali injury was scary, let's just hope it was just a precautionary measure. Italy could have easily scored five that first half were it not for Zaniolo being his usual crap self. I don't think I've ever seen such an overrated player in my almost 30 years watching football, the only thing he does well is dribble decently for a big man, and of course, get injured.

Hoping Tonali is ok;
That would suck for Milan if he was out for a while - obviously his health is more important than football

Zaniolo is so frustrating; has al ot of potential but he is soooooo inconsistent

Then and there
Algeria's Bensebaini was sent off for 2nd yellow after not so frindly elbow into opponent's head in the match against Sweden. Somewhat oddly ill-tempered match for a friendly, and there were couple of pitch invasions too, and even snow started to fall towards the end of the match.
