I never said I was voting to trade him... I just said I was curious to see what he would fetch in the "top 6 forward" category... that is not the same thing.

I don't see the rationale. Radulov is sick. Lehkonen looks promising, and worst case you still have Andrighetto or Carr that could fill in. Beaulieu has looked really good and has the perfect skill set to complement Weber.

Beaulieu was seen like a top 10 prospect in his draft. He has slided to us for some reasons, and that's what we have seen since his begining with us. This year, we see why he was considered a top 10 pick. At the end of the year, im 75% sure that we'll talk about him like a top 2 dman.

In the context that our others best dmen are old Weber and Markov, Beaulieu must be an intouchable.

Hey guys,

I really like Beaulieu but I would be curious to know who would you give (a top 6 forward) to get him? He's been excellent in the preseason (for what it's worth) and seems ready to step up this season. His caphit is 1 million for this season, and he is a RFA after.

We have plenty of defensemen and I'd be curious to know who on your team you would swap for Beaulieu... even if we have to add something like a 2nd round pick or a B prospect to even things out.

So, what are you offering!?

At this point Nate's not going anywhere.

  • Nathan's had a very good camp. He was leading the team in scoring going into the 6-1 win over the Leafs.
  • Petry is hurt, but I'm hopeful he's back for the start of the year. There's been no mention of his status.
  • Markov can't handle 20 minutes a night. He shouldn't handle 20 minutes a night. Save his legs as much as possible.
  • Pairs of Beaulieu-Weber and Markov-Petry mean there's a guy that can skate on each of the first two pairs. After that you've got Emelin-Pateryn (if Sergachev doesn't stick around). Redmond makes a good #7.
  • I know Sergachev is starting the year with the team, and he's got a hell of a lot of promise. But, he's still raw. We'll see how he does in the 9 games, but I'm not convinced he should stay. Yet.

His only issues were off ice, and it's really the one issue. He's largely been very quiet off the ice since turning pro.

i don't think Beaulieu is going anywhere before december. If Mtl is getting problems defensively and Beaulieu can't take the load on the top pair, i can see Bergevin trying to upgrade his left side and use Beaulieu as quality bait.

As for the OP's, i don't think Bergevin is trying to upgrade the top 6 anymore. Lehkonen is quite the real deal on the left side. really dynamic and talented player. Radulov is a bomb.

Beaulieu for Kreider is a pretty even swap... but that leaves Habs with a hole on the LD. If they can get Fowler, I'd say go for it.

For now, Habs top 6 is set with Radulov and Lehkonen. (Can't believe I'm saying this, seems like forever they haven't had 2 complete top 6 lines.)

If anything they should look to improve their top LD spot.
Might as well wait and see how Beaulieu performs first.

Maybe for a cheap 2 c to bump down Plekanec in a 3rd line role? Ciao DD...

Sergachev would have to stay all year and Markov would be overplayed so, I DON'T THINK SO!

No thanks we need RHD, The only LHD i would consider trading for is Detroit boy Cam Fowler.

Beaulieu is a good plan B if KH is unable to pry out Fowler from the Ducks. I used to be a big critic of Beaulieu, but he put on lots of muscle mass and he's easily in the Top 4 for the wings.

I would say, he's top 4 in any team and now top pairing for many like he is for us

Beaulieu is a better D than Fowler. Fowler's possession numbers are brutal while when Beaulieu was paired with Subban, those 2 were almost going at a 60% rate.

This year it looks like Beaulieu's play will finally translate into very decent offensive numbers.

If Beaulieu continues to peak throughout the season from his preseason performance, there will be no more doubt on him and will undoubtedly be better than Fowler given his awful possession numbers. But thats a big IF but as a fan of NB ever since he was drafted, im real confident he will be able to enjoy a breakthrough season.

Agreed. IF they trade Beaulieu, it should be as part of a package for an upgrade on LD.

I agree. Most wings fans drool over Fowler though... hence why as a wings fan I would be ecstatic if KH could make a trade involving Nyquist for Beaulieu...

I'm from MTL so I've been following Nathan closely for years. He went from a tiny easy to knock off the puck defender with decent offensive vision, to a stronger; ready to run a successful power play, top4 pairing Dman

...Why Montreal even remotely entertains this...?
