I thought Schmidt was solid in his role here. But 6m is clearly to much for a third pair role. They free up space to go hard to sign Monohan I presume.
I liked only the first part

Either that or our D pairings will be
JoMo-DoMo
Slammy-Plinko
Tree-Heiny
he has a 10 team no trade clause, new york tried to trade goodrow to the sharks and he wouldn't waive and they claimed him off waiversI'd bet Chevy tried to trade him.
That begs the question of who?
Tanev locked up, Marino gone, Montour likely to be courted hard, Zadorov has lots of interest around the league,
Maybe we make a push for Walker?
He was a decent D-man for us, and super great with the fans. Schmiddy was always smiling and goofing. Will miss his fun personality.
Didn't letting Dillon walk do that?
I hope Stan is not the Dillon replacement.
Why couldn’t they just retain and trade him?
The org likes set roles. Schmidt played the role Ville would likely play. The bottom pair second unit pp puck moving role is now open.
Unfortunately it looks like Stab is likely to play the Snerg role and Snerg will play the Dillon role.
I disagree I’m sure at 3 or 2 mil he is a valuable asset just not at 5.9 mil. But, obviously league disagrees. Also, I’m fine with moving 3rds as they rarely mount to anything.Would you rather give up a 2nd or 3rd and retain almost $3m this year or buy him out? He's certainly a cap dump at this point.
My guess is we hear a Monohan signing at some point. We needed that extra space for him and Perfetti plus depth and a backup.
He can’t play with the Jets for the entire 2024-25 season. He could re-sign with them the following season though. Not saying this will happen but I am curious, can the Jets sign him in free agency or is there some rule against it?
