Friedman: Nashville's not too interested in taking steps backwards

They have some solid talent. Could be a playoff team if they get it together.

They can't really tear it all down since they just spent like 100 million last off season.

Trotz was a great coach. Still, a coach tries to win every game and has no real reason not to. A general manager has to view the bigger picture. Nothing really indicates that Trotz sees things as a general manager should.

Team is old. With nearly all contributors 30+ and several key contributors being 35. Coach doesn't put young players in a place to succeed. He's either lying or delusional about how good this team is

The basement is a brutal place for small markets businesswise. Trotz has a boss. Even if he thinks that the Preds are headed there, he has to try to fight it off until it's clear to the people that make the big decisions.

Sucks for organizations trying to get bettter at Nashville's expense. Perhaps change comes in-season.

Josi’s game could fall of the cliff any point now

I doubt any of Josi/RoR/Marchessault/Stamkos are going to get any better
They won't get better but they might go back to a respectable form if they can find a way to get some chemistry going.

Also getting some cheap contracts for depth will be big. There might be some gems out there if they get lucky.

In a few days, they'll officially have one of the 10 richest owners in the NHL.

Dreger: Look, Nashville is open for business. Im not sure if that business is pushing forward, getting better, or taking a step back for a year. Everything remains fluid and a single call, email, text, whatever could blow this thing wide open with Nashville making a bunch of trades, or they might just sniff around, get some ideas for the prices of certain players and take a few weeks to relax then come back and see what deals can be made.

The most important thing to remember is this: the Nashville Predators believe that (whichever UFA’s agent paid me last) is a 15 million dollar player in the national hockey league whether it’s with the Predators or with another team.

What exactly is Trotz trying to do in Nashville?

He has no plan. Poille was setting the Predators up for a rebuild then they had a little hot streak after that deadline. Trotz took over and thought he could build a cup contender by signing some aging players. They just need to accept a rebuild right now, Josi isn’t getting any younger and might not play much next season with his pots diagnosis.

They’ll no top to carry them

Colorado, Jets, Minnesota, Dallas. In best case scenario, in best case they are 5th or 6th best team in their division

Net worth doesn’t necessarily equate to the willingness to lose money. David Thompson is the richest owner in the sport and the Jets were lowkey threatening Winnipeg about fan/corporate support this season. Hasso Plattner is Top 5 and the Sharks didn’t fully commit to a tear down until roughly the 4th season (Meier trade) of their current playoff drought.
