Considering the off-season additions made by Nashville and the expectations that came with them, has there been a more disappointing team in the NHL? The answer is no. The Predators, prior to games on Tuesday, sat 30th overall in the NHL standings … Steven Stamkos is minus-14 and has just 13 points in 25 games, including five in his past 10 … Jonathan Marchessault has 12 points in 25 games … Nashville has lost its past three games by the same score: 3-2 in overtime. Since winning three games in row from Oct. 22-26, the Predators are 4-7-6 in their past 17 games … Nashville has scored an NHL-low 29 goals at five-on-five and is last in goals per game, averaging 2.32 … The Leafs, on the other hand, were second in goals against at five-on-five, allowing just 32 in 24 games … Mitch Marner’s run since early November is something to behold. The Leafs wizard has recorded two points in nine of 11 games and been held off the scoresheet only by Ottawa, on Nov. 12, in that span … In 13 career games against Nashville, Marner has 14 points (six goals and eight assists).

If Domi can come back and play with Matthews and rekindle their chemistry from last year, he will be productive. He doesn't really create anything on his own, but for 3.5 can be a good complimentry player

History is not on your side. This is Max Domi in a nutshell
He shows you moments of brilliance only to dissapear.

We are his what, 7th team? at some point, the numbers speaks for themselves

As I see him, a good depth player who can have an edge. Wouldn't count on him for anything more. Which is not a bad thing. He is who he is.

Darn

Hopefully not the start of another day to day saga that isn't day to day, but tbh I thought today would be a pretty early return anyway. Heal up fast Jake

People forget when you get hurt or cuts, you get put on all kind of antiobiotics and painkillers
Those too have sideffects from time to time

Jake is only player in this team who has a bit of A** hole in him. Which I really appreciate

it seems like berube has a tendency to downplay injuries on report to the media.

I don't mind it because it should keep the talks down for the short term, but the longer he misses the more speculation will begin, especially with how little info we are given about the injury.

hope it's not too bad as we need McCabe to be healthy for us. The top 4 is missing a very integral part

History may not be on his side, but I think we can also give him some leeway for the fact that he was definitely playing hurt and was pretty much forcing himself to play because we were missing so many guys up front. A lot of folks were pretty harsh on JT as well when he got hit with a nasty flu bug in October and now it's pure crickets as he's shut them up. (Not saying Domi has the same pedigree, but I think he hasn't had the best circumstances this season)

I am kind of indifferent on Domi.

If he collects 4 points in every 7 playoff games for the Leafs I would consider it a win. It is rare they would trade him after resigning him but you never know

A player breaks his leg, leaves the game on a gurney, Berube: "He'll be fine, day-to-day" :sarcasm:

Maybe a healthy Domi can be impactful? He clearly has not been healthy since the start of the season. He can be better than he has been... if that is what we get, then I think he has a place on this team.
Proper usage would help, he looked very good last year on wing with Matthews

The GM and coach actually know what they are doing and for some it's uncomfortable.
Stop playing Reaves, dump Kampf, get a top 4 d-man to replace the dying OEL and I will believe they know what they are doing.
Oh, and Dominon Matthews wing when he is healthy. Playing him at centre is epic fail.
And stop signing stiffs like Hakannpa.

Nah. Can't see much of that happening. We're not going back to the Dubas days.

Reaves will play quite a bit until the playoffs. Kampf will be here all year. As will OEL.

Domi back on Matthews' wing is likely though once he's healthy.

The myth that never dies.
It's hilarious because the players who have injured our guys in the past are the likes of Marchand and Bennett. They are not phased by Reaves, never have been and never will be. In fact, they'd like Reaves on the ice against them because they'll dominate that shift while talking shit the whole time

Reaves accomplishes nothing. Despite changing GMs 2x in this era, we continue to champion this fourth line tough guy archetype and it's falling just as it did then (Martin, Simmonds, Reaves)

Soft schedule continues. Panthers lost again last night, tied with us in points but we have 2 games in hand. Need these two points.

Also funny enough if we win both games in hand, we would be tied with the Jets which is hilarious considering they won like 13 games in a row to start the year lmao

Pat Quinn popularized the “upper-body, lower-body” injury descriptor when he came to Toronto and Berube is very much following in those footsteps. Man gives you nothing.

I read a lot where Domi played well with Mathews as near as I can tell he played 14 games with Mathews from march 7th to April 7th he scored 2 goal and had 10 assists. 4 assists of which came in one game. 7 of the 14 games he didn’t get a point. Doesn’t seem like he was all that good, maybe he was alright.

Honestly, I’d look at it more in terms of how effective Matthews was playing alongside Domi. if you look at it in terms of goals produced line by line, if Matthews has good chemistry and can produce with Domi and Knies on his wings then suddenly we are much much deeper.

Knies - Matthews - Domi
McMann/Patches - Tavares - Marner
McMann/Patches - Minten/3C TDL - Nylander

Predators are a weird team. On paper, they look decent, have the number 1 goalie, stud #1 D man and a couple of game breakers up front. Middle-of-the-pack special teams, goalie stats for Saros are ok except for the loss column. Lost six 3-2 OT Games. not getting blown out every night, usually close games, just cant score 5/5. second last place in the league. A better team than they are showing maybe?. Leafs obviously cant take any team lightly.. This might be 1-0 at the end of the game.

As worth mentioning as the fact that Alex Nylander has the best faceoff winning % on the team?
Alex Nylander doesn't appear to be playing in this game, and I think most would agree that penalties are more impactful than Alex Nylander winning 3 of the 4 random faceoffs he's taken this year. But this seems important to you, so hey, congrats to him for finally getting his career percentage over 40%.

Stamkos with 13 points this year, in 25 games.... but, 10 of those on the powerplay. One goal and two assists, averaging 14:27 a night 5v5.... we've got to take advantage of this, as well as stay out of the box. Now they aren't great on the PP (17th in the league), but they only have 29... yes you read that right, 29 goals for 5v5. In 25 games...
@ACC1224 I think they real question is how many penalties does he take per game

That's concerning. Def sounds like a concussion then, guessing he woke up feeling weird.
Maybe, could also be spinal injury if he was hit in the back of the neck.

Faceoffs are perhaps the most overrated stat in hockey.
Figure out the difference in actual wins on 45% over 55% in a game, and it aint much.

I think almost everyone who thinks at all and looks at how they performed last year realizes that to maximize Domi and give feeds to Matthews, play them together.
Perhaps the leaf braintrust will sober up and see this too someday.
I am not holding my breath.
