Nashville Predators Talk - 2024/2025 Season

Just like his math. 4% is not 4 in 10
Maybe he thinks all of the team ahead of us, and there are many, can lose all of their remaining games, even though they necessarily play each other. So if nobody advances in terms of points, we got a chance to win a few of the remaining games and get in the playoffs.

I don't know. It's dumb as a post, really.

Why hasn't there been any rumours of our players hitting the trade market?

What's the plan for next year?

I have an idea on this. The new free agents are the new core when I saw the influx of signings on January 1. The first thing I said was. “ that might be too much salt in the soup.” i.e. that might be too many new players that might influence the chemistry of the locker room. My thought was suck this year get all of the new players acclimatized then go for next year. I know of the January 1 signings were exciting and it’s a lot of talent to the team but you still gotta get people used to the team, the culture of the city. I’m gonna advocate a new form of patience. Let this year suck. Get a top pick, next year play well.

My plan would be trade-off all of the players who have UFA next year. Try and trade up pics, if anybody makes a good offer on the second year UFA listen. After that, bringing kids and cycle from Milwaukee.

If we could redo it, how many people would've traded Saros during the off-season instead of signed him?

He really has been the only reason this team has won games.

But I would've kept Lanks as starter and had Askarov as back up personally
We could've just fed Askarov to the wolves piecemeal.

Might have helped his confidence. In Bizarro World. :naughty:

I hear you and I agree that's a pretty unlikely scenario to have ever occurred.

For starters, I have zero trust in our scouts and development staff to truly draft and develop a legit offensive threat. If they had an eye for that, they would've already found their Johnston, Perreault, DeBrincat etc. For us, it requires a "cant-miss" draft position, like a top-five one, which I don't see us getting even after this shitshow of a year. There's still half of the season to go and there is no way this team is this bad when it's all said and done. So, the same will pretty much happen next year as well (difference being all of the core guys being one year older).
Is it the scouts or the HC/System? The Ads seem to play well with the players that are drafted/picked up. Its only when they are brought up to the big team when they seem to get stuck on the 3rd/4th lines. Aren't used correctly or at all.

I think there is a massive issue with Nichol being the head of your development program. Just saying. I've been thinking that from the first day he got into that position.

Also, Trotz's comments on Edstrom prove to me at least he is willing to listen to any calls on younger players.

How about we trade Saros? Or Josi? Or O'Reilly or NyQuil or Skeji?

In retrospect it would probably have been a better choice. I mean it couldn't have been much worse, BUT with the information I had back then idk...

IIRC a lot of folks on this board wanted to trade him at the last deadline because they knew the U2 streak was not a true reflection of the team.

Most all were optimistic preseason with what Trotz did. And honestly still on paper this roster should not be as bad as it has been. Now it seems even the players have lost confidence. The one mistake I feel Trotz made was the goaltending decision. On one hand if you're going to compete now you have to stay with Saros but the term of the deal is now nauseating. On the other hand Askarov had finished in the AHL and needed a starting job. Could the results have been better? As it sets now it is hard to think Askarov would have a worse record than Saros. No matter what he did in the past that Saros contract will be hard to move , he has had a few games but for the most part has not held the team in position to win.

So as we blame no neck we have to nlame ourselves because we liked the roster at the start of the season.

Well I’ve been on a nice two week vacation in New Zealand and have pretty much ignored hockey during that time. Looks like nothing much has changed. Going to be really hard to care about this team until one or both of Trotz and Brunette are gone.

I'm excited to potentially get a high draft pick. As odd as it is to root for losses (and it's not like I'm sitting there actively cheering for the other team when I watch games, so it's an odd dynamic), I don't think there's a reasonable argument at this point that it's not better for the team.

The time to trade Saros was 2 years ago when we offloaded a bunch of the vets. Once Ekholm was moved, there was no reason to keep Saros.

The advantage of moving him then was any team acquiring him would've had him for 3 playoff runs at a very nice salary cap hit, which means we would've gotten a bigger haul at that time. The longer we waited, the smaller the haul was going to be and Trotz, for whatever reason, valued his goalie way above market value and never made a move.

It's been discussed here and ad nauseam on the main boards that goalies don't get large returns, even if it's a top 5 goalie in the league. So he waits and he waits and he waits because he's not liking any of the offers for either him or Askarov and when he finally does shit, he picks up a late 1st in a poor draft, a backup goalie at best and Edstrom, who was a late 1st himself and projects to be a 3C.

On top of it, you went from a position of strength in net to one injury to Saros and this team is screwed even more than it already is. Anunen has been a pleasant surprise but we don't have the data to know what he's going to turn into. We didn't have it on Askarov but I'm going to trust the scouts and what most of them agreed upon about him. He may be a bit off but the kid has talent and if he can keep it together between the ears, he's got a bright future.

And on top of it, a contender could go after Saros knowing he's locked up BUT if any team takes a risk on him before the TDL, Trotz is not going to get any sort of return for him with the new contract about to kick in.

At this point if you move Saros its because you don't want to be stuck paying that contract for the next 8 years, any return is a bonus. As you said you lost any reasonable return when you didn't trade him last year, if you got a box of KFC and a side of gravy you should be skipping down the road happy you aren't dishing out 60+ million.

Plain and simple, Poile set Trotz up, Trotz took a dump in the bucket and set it on fire.

The fans are also to blame is a nonsense take I'm not even sure Emma and Co. would venture to fly out there. Good grief.

No, fans on a message board excited at signings and optimistic of what the season could be are not also to blame. No, skeptical fans on a message board that were willing to give this "win now" team an open-minded shot regardless are not also to blame. No, fans that devote the majority of their fan energy to the Preds (and that includes fans like Viqsi who is fully honest about her loyalties) and not the FotM up-and-coming dynasty, and fans in the Tennessee area that financially support their team are not also to blame.

The players definitely are to blame for performing well under expectations. The coach is absolutely to blame for not getting better from this group of players. The GM is definitely to blame for not having a clear idea what he wants to do and relying on a nincompoop coach to make talent evaluations for the org. Sean Henry and Co are also very likely to blame for allowing/enabling all the above.

We the fans though...the ones that from a wide range of perspectives (not all "liking" this roster) ultimately tried to find the upsides and silver linings and hope for the best? Good f***ing grief man...

Then as fans how do you think the organization is held accountable. Many have been complacent well probably since make the playoffs the first time. Considering it a success just getting to the post season. Then after that period just to win a round. Since the finals year the funk set in leading to what's on the roster now. The only way to send a message is thru the pocket book but even the product on the ice now continues to put butts in seats. In the first years we yearned for casual fans to prevent this team moving to Hamilton and somehow we got thru that. Now the hardcore are really the ones suffering the limping team the casual fans are still spending not caring really about the on ice success. So as fans perhaps we are not taken seriously. How long would Hynes or Brunette have lasted in Toronto or Jersey or Edmonton? The fans have impact on coaching change without a doubt. Why is that no consideration here? Because it's a southern market????? Because fans do not make enough noise to befor change???? Or as long as enough money is coming in that the owners are not losing their shirt they let it ride. No matter how well off the owners have been thru the years they have focused on break even or a little better, well with the exception of the first dirtbag whose wife controlled the money and he forced the sell off that dang near moved the team. Oh then after he sold goes out and buys the Wild. If fans force negitive pressure in the bottom line they get change. What happened here the ticket prices soared , concessions too parking merch in and on and fans paid the prices. But now uncharted territory the team has needed a rebuild for at least three years and it's coming now reguardless before the casual fans jump ship like Titan fans have already done. But have to admit that it is nice that the Preds have had more support than the Titans after the McNair era. This market supports winners though Vandy is popular when doing well so was the Titans we will see how the Preds fair in the next few years rebuilding with fan retention. This is a big reason MLB has not given the area a team despite the city offering to build the stadium not to mention tax cuts and no income tax to the players.

So it is really in the fans hands as to what happens to any sport in the area. They have skin in the game.

Seeing you advocating for more fan complaints for the twenty billionth time actually makes me want to reflexively focus on the positive more after the sheer number of times you've cried wolf.
