I think hes still a top 10 goalie in the league and the contract is pretty fair. Last year was a case of him letting the team down a bit; this year is a case of the team letting him down. The defense in front of him isn't what it used to be. I take Saros at $7.8m over Shesterkin at $11.5m every single day of the week
This sounds like a Marx Brothers routine.

I think that you are mostly correct.

I am not sure about the top 10 part.

Maybe Trotz should have kept Fabbro?

Maybe TrotzenPoile should have kept Ekholm?

So more injuries but now to Stamkos and Evangelista. This wouldve been an excellent time to have Pärssinen and Tomasino but since they are currently unavailable maybe Svechkov/Novak and Kemell should get looks in those spots. That said, i fully expect something more dumb to happen. L'Heureux only has 1 more game left on his suspension so we may end up with Bellows and 1C sissons.

Forsberg - xxxx - March
Xxxx - RoR - Nyquist
Jankowski - Novak - xxxx
McCarron - Sissons - xxxx

WordBank
Hinostroza
Svechkov
Kemell
Ozzy
Bellows
Lucchini
Angelo
Mutter
Rolston

Considering the lineup already has 2 plugs in there (Jankowski, McCarron)... this is pretty bad.

At exactly the half-way mark of the season, the team has 33 pts. I think they might pick up the pace a bit in the second half. If they didn't, and just maintained the same pace, 66 pts is what Columbus had last year for the #4 spot in the draft lottery. I imagine the other supertankers are going to tank even harder down the stretch, but who knows... all of Anaheim, Chicago, and San Jose are objectively better than they were last year, so it's also possible that a 66-pt pace could still keep the Preds in the hunt for #1 this year. :dunno:

I'm not gonna hold my breath because I know the preds will go on a run to screw up our draft position but I would love for us to stay in the top 5 at least. Saying that This team desperately needs a hard reset to our front office and staff because I have no faith that even if we draft hagens will screw him up trying to have him play the " predator way"

This is just a bad team. With a shitty coach. And a GM who is GM'ing like a coach not a GM. Absolutely nothing to be optimistic about for the future.
Any optimism for the future would just be based on hoping Trotz is smart enough and introspective enough to realize that he's f***ed up and learn from his mistakes.

If he isn't and can't, then...yuck.

You are right. We get ZLH back. So 1 less person to have to cover for.

Forsberg - Svech - March
ZLH - RoR - Nyquil
Jank - Novak - OzzManCometh
Hino - Sissons - McCarrot

Not gonna win much but can be pretty annoying

Is there a Seth Jones available we can pick after the top forwards are gone? 😂

… but at least we didn’t end up with Drouin out of that draft.
Top 4 or bust for a 'top-tier' player seems to be the line of thinking currently. And one of those top 4 is Matthew Schaefer, LD, who of course on tankathon is right now mocked to Nashville at 3 :sarcasm:

Id rather take Misa who is still on the board to them. We dont get into the top 5 often. If we dont take the opportunity to draft a high end offensive talent im gonna be mad.

Grab a pair of D or a D + G with the late 1st rounds and call it good.

I agree, with the caveat that if we could somehow move Josi+ for a true 1C, then I'm fine using this pick to find a top-flight D. In the short term we'd have Skjei, Stastney, Wilsby, Lauzon (unfortunately), and potentially Molendyk all available on the left side, so we ought to be in good shape even with Josi gone.

Actually, the left side looks pretty good going into the future. The right side? Not so much.

Im personally all for flipping Josi and Lauzon. I dont think Josi would get us a young C unfortunately. Maybe like JT Miller but I dont think Josi happens anyways. Lauzon i could see flipped though. It just doesnt make sense to extend him beyond next season with Josi and Skjei on the left side. That doesnt even consider we have Wilsby, Stastney, and Molendyk as LHD as well. Gus may be a future player too and if Chistyakov came over he could probably make the team right away. Lauzon just blocks progression for other players and will cost too much.

Our RHD pipeline is basically Ufko and Gibson. Matier is looking decent this season in the AHL and is still quite young. Prokop isnt terrible but I don't think he has a NHL future.

Is Matier looking decent? Has he been injured? He has played 18/30 games and has 4 assists? This is his 2nd year pro already. I would put him right with Prokop and Livingstone as guys who don't have any NHL future. (Barring miracles).

Thankfully Ufko has seemed to come alive lately. But Ufko, Gibson, probably we're still a ways off from them being regulars, if ever. So RD is going to continue to be a sore point for us in the short/medium term.

I guess MacKinnon and Kulonummi are RD also? But who knows with them. Certainly not short/medium term options there either.

Anyway, who cares, you can find adequate RD patches if your LD is where your talent sits. We need to draft the best skilled forward we can this year. Priority on center, so Hagens or Misa.

If we end up picking top 5 this year, I want us to go forward (Center in particular) almost no matter what. The best D and G in the league are often drafted in the late 1st, 2nd, or 3rd round. Essentially all of the best centers are drafted top 10, most top 5. It's far more likely we strike gold with a 2nd round Dman than we find the only top-line center taken outside of the first round for the entire decade.
