What's not to like? He said Ozzy is the best hockey player he's ever seen and ROR is really, really old. :laugh:

Kaliyev waived by kings. Any chance we take a shot on him? Doesnt look like he has gotten in a single LA game this season though so might not be worth it

Yeah, he's like a smaller and craftier Parssinen. If we had both of them, we'd be set for the 2C/3C slots.

But we get those "rookie" bumps quite frequently with our young forwards, it seems. I think all of Tolvanen, Tomasino, Parsnip, Evangelista, and Novak fit nicely in that sense. If this is Svechkov's coming out party - and it looks like it might be - then I'm still antsy about what the future actually holds for him. We've been burned often enough by our handling of young players that I'm gunshy now. :(

When somebody messes with Svech, you will see an extra gear. He likes to get even quickly!

Not terribly surprised we didnt but thought it might be worth a look. Considering we already jettisoned most of the young players we started with, it was probably a long shot that we would claim him

He would have been scratched here for 3 or 4 games while he "got up to speed" with Brunette's chalkboard. Then he'd get into a game with 9 minutes on the 4th line with scrubs. Then he'd sit in the pressbox. Then he'd get another game or two. Then back to the hot dogs. Then a few more games. All told, he'd get a goal in 9 games. Then be put back on waivers.

So yeah, I'm fine with just skipping all that. :rolleyes:

I see a lot of ‘forgiving’ the start Saros had (again) this season. Honestly, elite and Saros dont belong in the same sentence. I dont call my 73 Chevy pick up elite and it takes about as long as Saros to warm up to the season and get running like we expect

I don't think he had a very bad start? Maybe 2 bad games? But was still 3.04/.896 for October. Which is about all you can expect from any decent NHL goalie on this team. Wedgewood was a lot worse. And Saros has had worse starts to seasons than this before, and taken longer to get going. So all in all, I think this is actually one of his better starts? :dunno:

Saros sv% breakdown by month
Oct - .896% not great but not terrible
Nov - .921% definitely more along what you want to see
Dec - .880% not good

League average goaltending sv% for starters is .904%. Saros is .906%. He has been very league average which isnt what he will be getting paid to be.

That said.... his losses by GA
1GA - 1 Loss
2GA - 3 Losses
3GA - 12 losses
4GA - 2 losses
5GA - 3 losses
6GA - 1 loss

There really are only a couple out of hand games that a competent scoring team couldnt handle.

I think hes still a top 10 goalie in the league and the contract is pretty fair. Last year was a case of him letting the team down a bit; this year is a case of the team letting him down. The defense in front of him isn't what it used to be. I take Saros at $7.8m over Shesterkin at $11.5m every single day of the week

I would rather have Askarov at $925k this season, $1.9M next season, and $2.1M the season after.

Given the benefit of hindsight now that we know our team actually sucks.

Even today, with Askarov gone, I'd probably still be willing to consider trading Saros before his NMC kicks in, if any contender out there is willing to give us a good enough return. Annunen and some rando goalie is all we really need if we're just going to continue rebuilding/tanking. I'm not sure there is going to be a team out there willing to give us much for Saros, though. But I would definitely keep my ears open.

We should absolutely move Saros if we can get a haul. Absolutely. It's what we should've done over the summer as well.
