He's going to get like 7/$12M AAV. I don't think the Preds are in a spot for that type of contract no matter who it is. We have our vets...let's get premium kids to fill in the rest of the gaps.
Yeah, any hopes of signing a really huge UFA have sailed now. We aren't signing any $12M+ players. Marner is probably worth his $12M. In today's money. To whoever can fit that on their Cap. But that's not us, so it really doesn't matter. We chose Stamkos and Marchessault instead.

Honestly, the team isn't at a point in the cycle to want a player like that. I do like the moves to bring in the vets. We should be now 100% focused on getting the best possible outcomes from our top-10 prospect pool. With 3 firsts, we should be fully focused on the future (next 2-4 years) of the team. We're not a Marner away from winning. I'd rather incorporate our young players.

*Note that this is what I would do...not saying this is what Trotz will do (sigh).

Right. Nyquist will be off the books, but the dead cap increases a bit next year. If we trade ROR or waive Novak that'll give us more space. But we'll have 2 holes and Marner would be only 1 expensive plug for Nyquist. If we throw away one of our Cs to get him, we'll have to count on a draft pick, one of our prospects (who Bruno won't play), or a cheap journeyman (Sissons 2.0) to fill that hole since we won't have much cap flexibility. Getting rid of a Schenn, Lauzon, or Sissons is treading water in terms of cap. They're cheap contracts and replacing them with a ELC guy doesn't save enough cap to do anything but maybe sign a rental tweener to a minimum contract.

Ugh watching what trotz is doing to this team is making me sick. I don't see how this team will move up from this. He has dumped almost every younger player we had from last year and the future looks grim. I can't even get excited about prospects because how we have handled all our prospects as of late. Stamkos marchessault, forsberg, and josi will all get older and retire and after that who do we have to step in their shoes? This team should of rebuilt 2-3 years ago but decided against it now we get to watching unentertaining hockey with no glimpse of what we'll have in our future

This is why I'm waiting for the draft before I condemn Trotz. Next year's team could look incredibly different and use a lot of young pieces.

Its really easy to get into the doom and gloom of what's going on with the team.

This is absolutely blowing up in Vancouver right now by the way.
Looks like Pettersson is available
Allvin went on blast basically, Not sure what you guys would offer, or how seriously you would be interested, He would obviously need a Haul.
But, just thought I would share and get your guys opinions!
Not everyday a 90+ Center with great Defensive abilities becomes available.

Thoughts?

Petterson is awesome and I would obviously love him on the team. I don't think we have what y'all would be looking for. A couple firsts and a couple top prospects I guess. Though, we'd probably have to move some money too.

I don’t think the Canucks would want picks or prospects as the main return?

They want a top 4D and a 2C? Fabbro and Carrier are playing like guys who could have been a minor component in that, but we tanked their value and got nothing for them instead. If we had been able to build on Parssinen or Novak’s early successes maybe they could have been components. But we tanked them too.

Maybe we can fool them on Lauzon, Schenn, and O’Reilly? We’d still have to give up some futures too, but if they want to “win now”… :dunno:

I would assume that Vancouver would want back a C that could give them a boost in a run at a Cup, can produce goals, isn't in the twilight of his career, and isn't completely unproven. The only guy left on this team that checks a couple of those boxes is Colton Sissons, but he's not going to replace Pettersson's production offensively. Then there is ROR, and he's looked completely cooked this year and may be playing through some physical damage. If they waive their NMC, we have Stamkos, March, Skjei, Forsberg, or Josi. And Saros could be traded before his NMC kicks in. I think it's clear from the interview that Allvin isn't looking for a draft or three worth of picks; he's talking about juicing the team into high gear very quickly.

Can't see how Nashville is a viable trading partner.

Nashville’s first round pick, young players, role players that could fit to fill out their roster, cap space.

Question is how much more would it be than getting couzens?
I would say a decent amount more than Cozens. I don't know that we have a package they'd accept for EP. I think Cozens is the type of player they'd want back in a deal.

I guess we could try offering our best C prospect, ROR, and some high draft picks but I don't know if that is really that enticing to them.

Cap works almost perfectly if we were to send Josi and ROR to Canucks for EP and Desharnais (cap dump for them). Maybe add one of our late 1sts. Would require Josi to waive though.

I’d be fine offering them ROR+Lauzon+Schenn+Wood/Kemmel+TB 1st if that’s what it took. Bonus points if they had any interest in Skjei and he was willing to waive his NMC, but since I don’t see that happening they might have to settle for Lauzon+Schenn instead.

And to hell with the idea that those players are some kind of “identity” wet-dream for us. Our team sucks balls. Whatever intangibles they possess are not helping us one bit.

If we have to take back any contract dumps like Desharnais, no problem.

If we have to throw in other bits, no problem.

I’m not a big fan of EP in general, but players like that rarely come on the market.

In the end, though, it’d be just down to what other teams can pony up with better/younger NHL players as the main return… and how dumb the Vancouver GM might be in over-valuing the “grit/intangibles” level of the guys we offered.

But who am i kidding anyway… our OWN GM values ROR/Lauzon/Schenn soooo highly he’d never even offer them.

Is Pettersson worth $11.6M and yet another NMC for the next 7 and everything we'd be giving up for him (even top 5 protected--are we going to continue being bad enough under a new coach to draft 6, 7, 8 again any time soon)? For a 102 point season, sure...for the regression last year and this, or the ~67 point player he was before that though?

Trotz would be happy to pay $11.6M for the 7 years just to have that neck on the roster for him to admire.
