I find it very enlightening to see that ever since Marchessault made his comment to the Montreal reporter about the ridiculous switching of line-mates during the game by Bruno that the Preds seem to be playing much better. Perhaps Marchy should be the player/coach or at the very least Captain of this team.

Need to be 19 games above .500 for the rest of the season to get to 95 points which may or may not get into the playoffs. To, almost, be guaranteed a playoff spot they need to be 22 games above .500 for 98 points. With 47 games left you're looking at something like 33-11-3.

This is basically winning 2 out of 3 games consistently. Seems dubious for this team but let's see what they've got. I think this is the first year that I'm truly pessimistic about their chances to turn things around.

I think it's winning 3 out of 4 games if my math is correct.

3 of 4 gets them to 99 points. To be more specific .7 or 7 out of 10 games puts them at 95 points and 2 of 3 or .66666666666666 put them at 92.

The urgency for this team should be 2 of every 3 at a minimum or they're falling further behind and their asses should pucker tighter any time they fail that in any 3 game stretch.

A six game winning streak to get to .500 at the midpoint is a pipedream for an 11 win team thru the holiday break.

Id be happy with someone like McQueen or Misa if we land in the 5-10 range, but Trotz would take Hensler
If we get 5th, one of Hagens, Frondell, Ryabkin, or Misa should be available, depending on which C falls, which is a late riser, etc., etc. (Misa is ranked #1 overall on a few lists at the moment.)

If we draft 10th overall, we ought to be out of the running for one of those guys and the W and D really start to come more into play. Drafting at 10 is more like remaining in the mushy middle with this shallow draft, it seems.

Coming out of the holiday break we sit 3 points ahead of last place Chicago and 11 points back from WC2 ... needing to gain 12 points and jump over six teams to make the post season.

I have a better chance of winning the Mega Millions without buying a ticket.

The loser points throws a twist into things, but if we think of it as a zero-sum game and hope that everyone ahead of us plays each other to a 50/50 standstill in the standings, then we need a winning streak over them all that is double the number of points we are back. So a 22 game win streak, just to have a chance. Add, if 8 teams ahead of us do better than 50/50, then that streak just gets longer. (The loser points make it even more difficult, since we might be trying to overtake a team that is losing games but still getting points in the standings.)

Don't tell Trotz, but the odds are not forever in his favor in this situation.

I am just looking at this team trying to determine if there is even a framework for a competitive team to build around. Playoffs aren't even a question to me at this point. I just want to see if there is something competent here or there that might resemble our players not all simultaneously having some of their worst career years.

Is there even a flicker of flame in the rubble that can be stoked back into a competitive team or is this just a lost cause and we are all waiting until Trotz realizes that.
