I wouldn't write off guys like Josi or Forsberg asking out. I understand they have families here and all but guys also want to actually win something at some point in their career and the older they get it has to cross their mind at some point.

Trotz coming out today and saying he has no regrets about his off-season is the most laughable thing I've seen in a long time.

Our franchise is being run by the 3 stooges right now but there are only two of them.
He can't say anything bad about these boat anchors he tied around his own ankles. I hope he secretly realizes differently. But you can't actually expect him to throw those guys under the bus right now. :dunno:

Hey if we can trade Josi for something like Pettersson from Van or even Cozens + Byram you consider it.

I think an admission there the team wasn't as far ahead as they thought would be appreciated. Or even say guys are advancing faster than you thought of you want to put a positive spin on it.

Also this whole thing about not calling anything a rebuild is hilarious

We're tied for last almost halfway through the season.... worst case right now is probably winning our way to just outside the playoffs this season.
Well, GMBT says he's a winner and so he's going to win, darn it!

Gutting depth, defense, and giving the 3rd line a daily swirly—we're winners now!

Well... this team could look significantly better with an EP and Cozens down the middle and Skjei, Byram down the left side than it does in its current format. I highly doubt Van is actually considering moving EP but i can dream. Other option is getting cozens secured now and lucking into Hagens. Next season could look alot better with Cozens, ror, and hagens

Pettersson AND Cozens?

The big trade rumor was Buffalo and Vancouver swap Pettersson and Cozens because neither team is happy with the value of either guy.

Anyway, I don't see how we can fit all that under the cap and keep our chest puffed out about all our great cereal winner signings that are locked in forever on cap crushing deals.

Well in a scenerio you got both youd have to send out RoR to Buffalo along with the necessary additions like Novak, lauzon, picks, etc to secure byram and cozens and Josi to Van is fairly cap neutral. We gain about 2.8 million shipping out carrier.

EP
Cozens
Sissons/svechkov/whoever
McCarron

Draft a d man with our 1st rounder and profit. Now this will never happen but id live with it if it did

I hear you, Stoneheart.

I'm not really liking this myself. Pettersson is in the rumor mill because he doesn't play a heavy, aggressive game. He's too one-dimensional. From what I've gleaned on Cozens, it sounds like the exact same beef with him.

Bringing in 2 one-dimensional guys that might actually need to move to wing to "solve" the down the middle issue and be the core of the team moving forward is a huge gamble with a low probability of a good payoff.

You add in Trotz's comments and that they imply he's suffering a real lack of patience and that risk looks pretty bad. I know it's not going to happen and it's fantasy league stuff, but if it somehow did, the vibe of this team says BT would expect them to be instant superstars and give them a shift or three to adjust...

Only 5 hours before the Christmas freeze. Doesn’t look like anything is going to happen on the trade front today. I take that as a good sign that Trotz isn’t in panic mode.

Something tells me Trotz thought he had it done last night, called this morning and Buffalo's GM came in asking for someone Trotz is unwilling to let go of so it may have fizzled out.

Go over it now. Watching the Preds play isn’t painful enough.
I'm watching the Jackets instead right now (Werenski just scored as I was typing this, woohoo! :D ) but I can give the quick version with this link:

We're currently dead last in the NHL, so that makes it a little easier to see the case against. Note that by far the most likely outcome is moving down two spots. Moving down at all is overwhelmingly likely.

There is, however, no guarantee we finish last (and trying to assure it has more evil consequences later on, but that's a separate harangue). In truth, the "you're most likely to lose draft position" situation applies to everyone in the bottom 6 - for #6 overall (coincidentally where the Jackets are at the immediate moment) it's just barely more than a coin flip to not move down (50.5% versus 49.5% to stay in place or move up). Beyond that, "stay in place or move up" becomes the most likely outcome.

So penciling in a top-2 guy - or, even worse, the #1 overall - is little more than an exercise in misery-building. When it was the Jackets that were flirting with Dead Last in 2022-23, I was so confident we wouldn't end up with Bedard that I made a bet that if he did become a Blue Jacket, I'd have @BigFatCat999 do me up in clown makeup (I'm terrified of clowns despite - or perhaps because ;) - of having one for a surrogate big brother) and appear on video. As we all know all too well, Bedard did not come to Columbus.

(...and Monahan just scored as I was wrapping this post up. Maybe I should reiterate this odds thing every time the Jackets are playing...)

All fair points. Top 4 picks should have what we need. Problem is, we’ll go 4 again and end up, is it Schaeffer who’s the defenseman?
