I noticed some talk on the Sabres board on some of our veterans, namely Nyquist and Sissons.

I feel like we could be a good trade partner for them as they have some enticing younger pieces to send back. They could also use an RHD which we could trade Carrier or Fabbro for.

I was thinking something along the lines of:

To NSH:

Jack Quinn

To BUF:

Fabbro
Nyquist
1st
Why should we give up a 1st? Quinn is kind of bombing lately? If you are a Seller you aren't giving up 1sts. Somebody out there is going to want Fabbro and Nyquist, sell them to somebody else. Quinn isn't the prize you go hard for.

A 1st or whatever but Quinn is exacly the type of player we should be going after at this point. We cannot tear it down so the best course of action is to try to acquire young players who have perhaps underperformed in their previous teams and are for sale. There's no use in moving guys like Nyquist "just for picks". We have plenty of those and after all, this is a team that should try to contend.

Yeah I just don’t see a “burn it down to the ground” style rebuild in the future either so I’d be ok with moving some pieces to pick up quality young players. More of a retool than a rebuild. The core NMC guys are here and not going anywhere. The rest of the team needs to be rebuilt around them. I’d move out some of the guys like Nyquist who have value but I’d rather get young promising players that are ready or almost ready for the NHL than draft picks unless the plan is to try to get another 1-2 firsts to try to trade up into the top of the draft.

Why trade for players that are similar to the ones we already have? We have hopes that the players we draft will develop and rarely do. I'm tired of the hope that someone will pan out or acquire a project player. How about we acquire players with a known track record instead? This isn't meant as a slam to what you've posted, I understand what you're saying and wanting to do but it's more of the same of what we're already doing. Yeah, sometimes guys need a change of scenery. Other instances guys need a chance. I've been impressed with what I've seen from Pars the last two games. That whole line has looked good. All they've needed is ice time and it's crazy, they've performed.

Source for those wishing it weren't so:

As far as I'm concerned there are only two acceptable outcomes for this:
* He makes it to Milwaukee somehow, OR
* He ends up here in Columbus, because I'm a selfish bitch.

But really it should never have happened to begin with.

I was never the biggest fan of Fabbro and don't really think this is a *huge* loss for us (well, in terms of on-ice performances it's not a loss at all since he wasn't playing) but still to play Schenn over him is a serious head-scratcher.

Also, to add to this:

2010: Austin Watson (traded)
2011: Jonathan Blum
2012: Pick traded
2013: Seth Jones (traded)
2014: Kevin Fiala (traded)
2015: Pick traded

We're a Tomasino away from getting absolutely nothing from our 1st rounders from the 2010's.
Just give it some time and Tomasino will be gone too. I’d be shocked if he makes it through the season on the roster.
