Nashville Predators Talk - 2024/2025 Season II

When your fourth line players are averaging third line minutes and producing well below what the average fourth liner does, that would be the rub. Add to this the youth not getting these minutes compounds this problem even further.
I wasn't really expecting the youth to get too much ice time with the additions last summer and right now on season wide average L'Hereaux and Svechkov are maybe two shifts behind. But I can get behind the bolded statement 100% when at the same time we're not taking advantage of the situation and playing the younger players more.

Mix and match to have younger players on all lines and give them all similar minutes. I know there could be contractual limitations, but these are the times you decrease the TOI of your top players for greater good.

I can't help but think it's more about Barry not liking some of the guys and disregarding what would make most sense from development pov. But then again, I'm looking from outside.

I don't doubt it. It all comes down to they type of game you play. We saw a guy like ZLH get called up pretty early but the more skill guys tend to get buried there.
Well, ZLH got promoted but he still gets crap minutes. Wyatt Johnston is still just 21 and has played 245 NHL games. Crazy. I have no doubt whatsoever he would have been in the AHL for us in Year 1.

Past that... I guess it would just have depended on how badly he trashed that league? :dunno: I wouldn't say any of the young guys we usually complain about getting railroaded here have actually TRASHED the AHL? Tomasino probably came closest in the Covid-year when he was still underage? But it was a watered-down AHL, so who knows. Anyway, we've never drafted a forward prospect as good as Johnston. Mavrik Bourque is a little more in our wheelhouse. He got 2 years in the AHL, but the thing is, once he graduated, he stuck as a regular. A little low on minutes early this season, but up to around 14mins/gm in the last few months. He's the guy who, if he was here, would have been up and down, in and out of the pressbox this season, ultimately tossed aside after next season. Let's see how he pans out for the Stars instead.
