Nash Trade Redux

Out of all the terrible big names that Sather has brought in over the years, I think Nash has had the least impact of them all. That's saying a lot when you consider names like Gomez, Redden, Richards, Malakhov, Drury. I feel like all those guys at least had moments. Nash has done nothing for this team. He's invisible most nights.
 
At the time i thought we won the trade. Dubinsky was coming off a terrible year with a big cap hit, anisimov was decent but replaceable, and the first round pick was suppose to be very high 25-30. Maybe Scott Howsen wasnt as dumb as i thought lol
 
Damaged good, that's all I gotta say. I think I've seen this before, oh yea Gaborik.....
 
This guy has Lemieux size, Lemieux hands, Lemieux speed, and the will-to-win of Alexandre Daigle. As far as hockey I.Q., he reminds me of Gomez, flying through the neutral zone, but either holding the puck a few seconds too long, or making a non-play pass to a player in position to do nothing without a ton of luck. Or maybe Dubinsky, behind the net when the open ice is in the slot, along the half-boards when the puck is about to come loose in the paint, in the corner when the puck gets won to the middle of the circle.

Nash generally looks disinterested and kind of put off. I think the concussions are bothering him both physically and mentally. I don't think the team and supposed fresh start is what he thought it was going to be. Kinda has that look like he made a big mistake.

Except for last year when he co-captained the offense with Stepan and without him they probably aren't a playoff team, of course.

I think it's more mental than anything and I think it's more regret and being put off than the concussion.

He was on a losing team his whole career, in a non-market (no disrespect to CBJ whom I like, they just have virtually no media attention) and got fed up. He submitted an extremely limited list of teams he'd take a trade to. One was NYR, tops in the East at the time and went to OT game 6 in the ECF (whether we were playing over our heads that year or not is irrelevant; I doubt Nash was scrutinizing the team as much as looking at the results), the other team was SJS, who are annually near the top of the West. Either way, he probably thought he was going to be moving to a perennial contender and both teams had other big guns (Gaborik/Richards/30 goal Callahan or Thornton/Marleau/Couture) and solid looking defenses (McD, pre-injury Staal, G, Lundy or Boyle, Burns, Vlasic and Vezina nominee Niemi). He would have finally been in a position where he didn't have to be "the guy" and would have a chance to win as well.

The Rangers are not the team he thought he was going to. Last year he was still thinking they were. It was also a short year so, in reality, he really only gave us 35 games of effort? We struggled to make the playoffs and it was evident he was, in fact, going to have to be the guy like he'd been in Columbus. When the chips were down in the post season, he vanished entirely.

We moved Gaborik as well, making it even more evident that Nash was going to be "the guy" and everyone knows there's talk about buying Richie out, since last season. The guys in the room know that too. More pressure on Nash. Add to it a coaching change and the supposed mutiny against Torts? There's not just pressure on Nash to be the guy and we're barely more guaranteed of making the playoffs than Columbus now, but there was also turmoil in the locker room. Now he's learning a new system and the team is struggling even worse than last season. It's going to be even tougher than last year was. And the NY media is all over him for disappearing in the playoffs and not stepping up so far this year. He's regretting coming to NY. He made a mistake. He's feeling that. Then he gets concussed. His career and Olympic chances are in jeopardy. He's even more miffed. He's totally uninterested and unengaged. He's going through the motions. He'll play himself right out of town eventually.
