Something must be going on with Mrazek. Very surprised going with ned again, not because he's been bad but because he's never had a workload like this and mrazek (I would have assumed until today) would be capable ready to rock
IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE TO HAVE HIM ON THE BENCH. UNLESS REIMER IS SECRETLY EVEN MORE DEAD.

He wasn't good in his return at the end of the season. Passable, but he was visibly off his game, and giving up a lot of dangerous rebounds he doesn't normally give up. He didn't look great and got bailed out against Chicago, and got absolutely lit up by Nashville. Something is still wrong there, and Ned is performing, and presumably in good communication with the coaches about fatigue levels.

I had to go back and look this up because it's frustrating me:

Ned started 3 games in a row once all season, from 4/20 to 4/24.

Reimer played 5 games in a row before Ned got his first shot, relieving Mrazek on 1/30 and playing through until 2/7. (Reimer also gave up 5 goals on 2/4 and 5 goals again on 2/7.)

Every other example was a streak of 2 games or fewer all season.

I don't understand why RBA continues to roll with Ned playing more games in a row than he has all season when all 3 goalies performed well in a rotation.

Ned has really only had one mental f***up this playoff, and that was the 2nd goal the other night. Outside of that, he's been stellar, and beaten with good shots, tough deflections and good adjustments by Nashville shooters. He's playing at exactly the level you'd want the starter of a legitimate contending team to play. And not only that, but he's making some otherworldly saves in high pressure situations.

He's not the reason this series is 2-2. He's played well enough to get the sweep. Its up to the rest of the team to hold up their end of the deal.

I can't fault Mrazek for the season ending game against Nashville. The defense was Gardiner, Bean, Skjei, Keane, Hakanpaa, Ryan. The first line forwards played 13 minutes or less. That was a throwaway game.

BY THE WAY, I REMEMBER QUITE FO^KEN' VI'IDLY BUNCH OF PEOPLE BEING KINDA WORRIED ABOUT NED (NOT PERFORMANCE-WISE) STARTING THE FOURTH ONE IN THE ROW ALREADY.

@Svechhammer

THE OBVIOUS ISSUE IN THE GAME 4 WAS THE SHOOTING IMPOTENCE, BUT 'TIS NOT SMART DRILLING NED LIKE THAT IMHO.

Fair enough, but he didn't play well against Chicago, either. And Chicago is not exactly the Lightning.

He's off his game. Maybe it's lingering pain. Maybe it's rust. Probably both. But right now, Ned is our starter, and traditionally, you play your starter all playoffs unless you're forced to do otherwise. We've been non-traditional recently due to the equal performance of goalies we've had and things like a playoffs with lots of back to back games. But this year, one goalie is playing much better than the others, and we have days off between our games.

It wasn't the goals against that worried me about Mrazek that day. His rebound control was honestly not good, and worrisome for him to be showing at the last day of the regular season. Ned is really good about knocking pucks to unoccupied corners and away from second chance opportunities, which you need in the playoffs.

If all 4 playoff games had ended in regulation I wouldn't think much of keeping the same starter for game 5, but we're coming off 2 marathon overtime games, with travel... maybe it's not any kind of issue but if mrazek is himself (and he very well may not be) i dont see the downside in giving him this game, again IF he is ready

Hopefully no one runs the Dale jokes into the wall again this time.

Oops.
You know, we are basically the Dale fans of hockey. I mean the Canes playoff jerseys is basically the same color scheme. We both were able to cheer our guy on to a title. And the most recent person to use #3 died in a car accident during team related activities.
