Yeah I saw the tweet from Custance- that opinion is in the vast minority though.

And while the hockey side might be debatable right now and maybe the next 1-2 seasons, it won't be that way when Weber is 34 and up and Subban is still in his prime.

He makes a few boneheaded plays here and there... But overall he's a rock on defense. A rock. And one of the best penalty killer in the league.

You'd have the same problem with Ellis though. I'd guess that Subban will play top pairing with Josi. I hope that it works.

I'm not sure how I feel about this trade for the above reason. IMO, our pairing worked, because we had a strong defender with a good puck mover in both of our top pairings. We also have already paid the expensive years of Weber's contract, and end up with a higher cap hit with PK. It sounds like I might be the only person who doesn't like this trade for the Preds.

I think that Poile made it, because he never liked Weber's contract that was forced upon him. He has now unloaded it while getting an excellent player in return.

The Preds currently have roughly $28.7m in cap recapture penalty accrued for Weber - from salary+bonuses paid in excess of his cap hit. That was going to go down starting the year after next once his salary+bonuses dipped below the cap hit, but now that we've traded him, it won't. It'll stay constant.

This is not an issue so long as Weber does not retire before the contract ends. If he does, though, it gets bad. Really, really bad:

Now that said, PK Subban is ****ing beautiful and amazing and I can't imagine anyone else I would prefer to have on the Predators. I just hope Shea doesn't end up screwing us.

It's possible that we did. We know Weber works with Josi and Ekholm works with Ellis. We don't know if Subban will work with Ekholm or Josi, though I'd imagine he will since he is an elite player.

There is also the possibility that those opinions are influenced by soon-to-be archaic thinking of the game. Poile is taking the team in a new direction, heavily relying on speed and skill. Weber has skill to spare, but not so much speed.

Subban also fits in more closely with the rest of the core age-wise.
