Name your Captain and Alternates

I don't think most people would have assumed Zucc was going to be named captain at the start of this season, whether they intend to trade him or not.

True, it's going to be a wait and see game for Zucc and Hayes. Not only if they play well or not, but also where the Rangers are getting close to the trade deadline. Are they on the bottom of the standings I see them leave, and they wouldn't mind at all.

Whats the theory about road and home games having diff As?

It will most likely depend on specific named jersey and other memorabilia in the team store for that specific game.

For example, if the container that arrives from Hong Kong has too many Fast winter hats, Fast is one of the alternates for that game.

Why does Marc staal still have his A from like 10 years ago?

Seriously I don’t understand why we coddle him. If he was a free agent signing this year he probably would’ve been waived

I can't answer for hockey specifically, but certainly in other sports and in other ventures there is a big push towards 'leadership groups', with the idea being that you allow more people within an organization to develop and show their leadership capabilities, and you get a more diverse output. It also provides recognition to those who might not get it if you had a more traditional leader and '2IC' structure.

Using the current Rangers as an example, a guy like Fast may not have previously been rewarded/recognized as much for his work ethic and leadership as there were only 3 letters available (and normally really only 2). Going with alternating letters mean that he gets recognition and feels more comfortable in being a 'leader', while the younger guys coming through see that they too can be rewarded in a similar way in the future so it promotes them in hopefully developing the leadership traits and skills that the team wants.

So you give him the A just because of his total body of work as a Ranger, his perseverance, and that the current team members and coaching staff respect him as a person and leader ?

Or maybe because u know... he’s been a complete pro his entire career and has things he can teach others even when the fans feel he’s a worthless POS.

No one feels he’s a great d man anymore but to pretend that he has zero to offer as a teammate, mentor and leader is ridiculous.

It's also just an A. Staal is the longest tenured player outside of Hank and is presumably respected by his teammates and coaching staff.

Unless the extra stitching on his jersey makes him any slower, I don't know that getting mad at Marc Staal being looked to as a leader is a megadeath scenario.
