I think Zibanejad emerges this year and will be the next captain of the Rangers.

But not now.

I think he gets an A along with Staal and Zuccarello. I'd rather give Staal's A to Fast or Kreider. In fact I'd rather give Staal's A to the drunk homeless guy outside MSG who calls Zibanejad "Sekanejad"

But at least I won't have to be subjected to Girardi fumbling the puck on the powerplay this year.

I don’t like the idea of not having a captain regardless of whether we’re in a transitional period, we should still be icing a team to compete and have someone who is our leader. Having no captain seems sorta like you’re throwing in the towel and admitting you don’t have a leader

I think this is the difference in captaincy these days others are referring to.

A placeholder used to be fine. Nowadays every team wants "the guy" before they name one.

I understand there isn’t a clear cut captain for the current team, but iirc, the only long term time the Rangers had no Cs , yet multiple As was the the post lockout NewEra When Jagr was the clear cut captain based on previous resume and then curent performance, but he didn’t want the see, so everybody’s buddy, Tom Renney decided no one has to be captain if they don’t want to.

Note: this is before FIRE RENNEY! And we won cups every year for 10 years after that.

Well not only do I think he's captain material, but also, If anything, it might help lead to a trade since the Rangers appear to love dumping their captains at the trade deadline.
