why is Gagne always on the bubble when he keeps getting selected and then playing significant minutes for team Canada? guy gets zero respect...
3. his linemates have been: Sakic/Iginla and Thornton/Nash... played with the TB boys some during the World Cup, right? doesn't seem like someone on the bubble based on that.
Peter said:That might be part of the problem...he is always playing with top line-mates...it would be nice to see him play with some less stellar players to see what he is all about...the problem with Gagne is that he hasn't done a whole lot in the NHL. The kids is a player - no doubt - but is replaceable if there is another player or two who are "hot" at that time of the year.
Peter said:In my mind, Gagne, Doan, Yzerman and Smyth are all on the bubble so to speak: each one could easily be replaced by whoever is hot at that time of the year. Yzerman should not be on this team no matter what!! One guy that could be added, if he has a great start to the year, is Sidney Crosby. Imagine a line of Lemieux/Crosby/Bertuzzi.....cool!

his list leaves out yashin also,i'm sure he'll be named.

Russia needs people with some size that will use it. This is a good team if all accept to play. I think Russia needs to find some better role players though. Too much flash on this squad. They can also drop the human speed machine who can't score in Afinogenov. I would much rather have Slava Kozlov or Kharitonov

DownFromNJ said:See, this is why the US isn't going anywhere. This lineup could very easily be a realistic team, but it isn't going to win.
You have to eliminate Derian Hatcher, Doug Weight, and maybe even Modano if he doesn't perform. Over the hill centers aren't going to perform well enough to help the US defeat Canada.
My team USA:
Tkachuk-Gomez-Guerin
Knuble-Drury-Malone
Pandolfo-Rolston-Konowalchuk
Parrish-Parise-Gionta
extra: Halpern
Rafalski-Martin
Liles-Leopold
Miller-Berard
Extra: Suter
Esche
DiPietro
Problem is, the lineup you posted is the most likely to be fielded, it just isn't the best. Team USA needs to trust it's youth. I think my lineup both will score more goals and is gritty enough to take down Canada.
someguy44 said:Is Kessel considered old enough to play for team USA? If Crosby can play for team Canada, then Kessel should also be old enough to play for team USA since he's only a couple of months younger than Crosby.
Kessel should get strong consideration for team USA even though he's not a NHLer yet.
MooseHunter said:Gagne is definitely not on the bubble. He is the most underrated forward in the NHL as far as I'm concerned. And when he plays for his country, it's double what he does in the NHL. He may not contribute much offensively, but the way he sees the ice, and his abilities defensively are a must. He's a lock IMO for Team Canada.
