name any other team in any sport where the core run the asylum?

Why would any future player on this team accept anything less than top dollar? At least Matthews has the goal scoring trump card. But what's the excuse for Billy Bystander?
Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe ownership rather first round exits than no playoffs? They went what 8 years without playoffs? Now have had consecutive years of being a good team and climbed back into being the most valuable NHL franchise, maybe it's just a business decision. That's the only thing I can think of.

I think all cores tend to run the asylum in one way or another, but this is where you need them to be an extension of the coaching, hold guys accountable, know what the standards are and hold them up.

This core group seems to struggle with the talent cure, which is they can all use their talent to game break out of impossible situations without paying any mind to effort, details, etc. for most of a game... so with such a gift it makes their commitment level to system play, competing hard inconsistent. They know they can cut corners and still have a reasonable way to win. Unfortunately, this recipe also doesn't apply for 15 other guys on the roster who can't flip a switch.

OK
Seeing as there are some people here who have some sort of idea that Paul Marner is somehow pressuring the club to do certain things, like overpay Mitch, like give him icetime etc etc.

I think it's only fair that good ol Bri who was just as prominent in Austons dealings with the Kyle and the club, who did after all council Auston to withhold the mooning incident from the club, because he was afraid it might hurt his negotiating position. The incident only came to light because the young lady insisted that the charges be pressed. With the charges going to court the state had to confirm Matthews foreign employment., if they could have convinced the young woman to drop the charges the Maple Leafs nor the league might never have heard anything about it, as it was they seemingly couldn't have cared less.
that whole deal was ignored by the mostly woke MLSE because it was Saint Mathews............

To be fair who cares if he mooned someone while drunk. Also to be fair MLSE culture is weak, just like the attitude of the team on the ice.
