name any other team in any sport where the core run the asylum?

This GM also spent 14 million on Bertuzzi, Domi, Klingberg and Reaves. I'd take one of Matthews, Nylander, Marner every day compared to those 4.
if he had clarity on the contracts of Matthews & Nylander maybe he would've committed to other players on multiple year contracts but they both decided to do what they did, not defending him because these guys have not worked out but it was clear he did not want to commit more than 1 year on substantial salaries to anyone including Samsonov.

My point is, you could spend 14 million and get a garbage return, like what this GM got. I wish we got more of a discount from our best players but I can't blame them at all. It's up to the GM to surround them with competitive depth players and we are sorely lacking that, not because of cap, we had room, but because of poor decision making.

No question it’s up to the GM but you can only choose from what was available in free agency which was not very deep this past year and then on top of that you had to get players willing to accept one year deals. Additionally you couldn’t trade young & future assets because there wasn’t much left to trade. Again, I didn’t like the Lafferty trade, can’t defend that but there were some difficult constraints to work around.

Tre should not resign Kampf. Lafferty can play Kampf role and actually faster and better.
Should had use the Kampf money on Schenn.
Then trade TJ to other teams in the summer for picks and prospects and sign Soucy for 3.25mil.

Zadorov, Soucy should’ve been targets

It was like the writing was on the wall for Zadorov and tre still didn’t go for it

Soucy was more of what we needed and yet he looked to add klingbarf

We gave them Lafferty lol

As for our list, only domi looks to be worth anything close to his pay. Bert is a 4th line grinder, klingberg is on robidas island, kampf cannot pk or play defence effectively, Reaves is irrelevant to the team, Gregor is ok

Domi isn't worth it either. 4 goals is pathetic.

Are you ignoring that the Leafs offered the EXACT same package as Vancouver did for Zadorov and the Flames refused?

If I blame Tre for anything in that situation, it's that it took him way too long to figure out that trying to trade with his old team is a waste of time, because SOMEONE over there clearly remembers Cliff Fletcher and is absolutely terrified a trade in this situation might be Doug Gilmour 2.0.

Clearly op does not follow basketball.
Basketball and hockey are very different team sports.... For example, an NBA game is 48 minutes long. Some NBA players average more than 40 minutes in a game. That would be equivalent to an NHL player averaging 49 minutes of ice time per game in the playoffs.

It actually kind of makes sense for a core to run a team in the NBA.

Except we wanted to send contract back to make it work because of our awful FA signings taking up the cap space we could’ve used on actual upgrades

Flames didn’t want that.

We needed Calgary to retain and they wouldn’t
Has nothing to do with tre and the flames situation
Like everything it comes down to cap and lack of it

for decades we used to complain about how elite players would never sign here

and now that we finally have elite players that want to sign here, we complain about how much they're making

lol it's a lose-lose in this city no matter what

God as my witness- there is something VERY VERY ROTTEN with this core. I'm telling you AM/MM/WN/JT and Marners dad tell soft Shanahan how to run this team and org. Its blatently obvious whats going on.
Look at the teams that won multiple cups, did you ever hear about the Dads of Crosby, Malkin or Toews, Kane or Kopitar, Doughty?

Playing hardball with Nylander and Marner was amateur hour and Dubas/Shanny poisend the well that way, if Lou was still there you would have just heared player x signed for that and player y signed for that and he would have kept the dirty stuff behind closed doors where it belongs.

Our top players are the only ones doing their jobs (minus Tavares). They aren’t the problem.

It's the sentiment in windsor for sure .
