Name a former Leaf you liked but no one else liked

For me it was McCabe, the fan base really turned on him in his last couple of seasons here but I was always a fan. I think people mostly hated him because of his contract and that own goal he scored.

Another one for me was Lee Stempniak, I think ppl didn’t like him because we gave up Steen for him but I always thought he looked like one of the most dangerous guys on the ice when he was here and always seemed to work really hard.

Mike Brown. Not that anyone disliked him - just kinda irrelevant outside of his fighting skill and energetic style of play. Enjoyed every shift of his.

Larry Murphy. I once stood up at MLG and clapped obnoxiously while everyone else was booing him. Pissed me off to no end, the disrespect shown to a real good Dman like Murphy. Have questioned Leafs fans hockey knowledge ever since.

Pavel Kubina - He was the ONLY bright spot during that dreadful 08/09 season . He was a great D man with one of the best slap shots I've ever seen on the Leafs. Just the way he could step into it and fire it at the net (I have his replica jersey and bought his game used stick that I still display!)

Mike Komisarek - He was being interviewed at the Leafs TV area by gate 6 during pregame (he was hurt and didn't play that night) remember asking for a photo with him and his security guy said (politely actually) that they were in a rush but Mike said to me no worries we can get a photo! Loved him ever since.

This.

Add Bob Rouse, and Jamie Macoun to the list.

I was a huge Salming fan as a kid. I had never seen a dman like him on Leafs at that time.

For a few years a lot of kids in school would verbally abuse me and make fun of me for liking a Swedish player on Leafs when there were so many other players.

Anyway, long story short, he eventually won EVERYONE over ;)

Interesting, I started watching the Leafs around 1980. I was in grade school and Salming was easily the most popular Leaf at my school. There was some sort of allure to him being a Euro. He was my fave too but I was just following everybody else, though it turns out he was very worthy of that distinction.

I was old enough to rmbr him signing with team. His first year. He was awesome.

It's good to see the stigma behind euro players has gone down big time, but it's still visible in small doses today.

Jason Blake. Was really rooting for him when he came to the Leafs. Especially after fighting cancer. Was hoping he was going to replicate his 40 goal season in NYI, even though I knew that was a long shot.
