Myers 5min Match Penalty: Cross check to the face of Bouchard (Suspended 3 games)

Seems one game excessive for Myers imo but not an outrageous decision I suppose. Originally seemed like would be a fine it was such a weak cross check but I guess to match Mcdavids crosscheck suspension length this makes sense
When is originally? Getting a match penalty in the final minute of a game is a good indication it's not a fine.

Nothing new here to look at just the NHL showing that they don't give a damn about their star players.

Go back in time when Crosby was young and in his prime and people would call him crybaby Crosby for complaining about penalties when in reality they should have actually been calling players against their star players so that they have room to play within the written rules of the game.
They were both cross-checks to the head… you guys are reading way too many tea leaves.

HF: NHL won't give him anything because it's McDavid.
Oilers Fans: He'll get suspended. Probably 2 games.
HF: No way, man! McDavid gets all the breaks!
NHL: Actually, it's 3 games.
HF: NHL finally does something to control this monster!
Oilers Fans: I mean, we said it would happen.
NHL: ...and Myers gets 3 as well.
HF: Whoah, whoah, whoah! That's too much! (probably, at least, because this thread is crickets compared to the pearl clutching in the other)

Myers was unprovoked and delivered with significantly more force.

That is irrelevant to the play with Garland. Otherwise they would have mentioned it in their little video.
Myers was unprovoked and McDavid was predatory/retaliatory.

Both have previous suspensions for head contact

Both did the near identical crosscheck to the head.

It’s fitting both get 3 games when they are essentially mirror image infractions

I mean if you ignore the crazy takes from Oilers fans then take takes from different people to represent one HFboard opinion then maybe.

3 games is about right. I'm glad they both got the same amount. My worry was McDavid would get less or a slap on the wrist. He definitely deserves this.

As for Myers there's zero reason to crosscheck Bouchard just cause he's yapping and skating towards you. If you square up with him he will run and hide behind a ref. He's zero threat to you, so why crosscheck him like that. Dirty play, suspension justified.

What are you talking about? Are you just here to troll and stir things up because you have nothing better to do with your time?
I’m sorry education has failed you. You sincerely think that Myers should be given a different penalty because he’s not a star player?

You quoted a post that said this should not have been equivocal suspension.

Well, I still can't figure out whether I'm chatting here feeding a troll or whether I'm talking to someone who didn't actually watch the hockey game.

If you don't get the point then maybe you should move on and go talk badminton with your neighbor. You sure as hell ain't going to get a quality conversation out of me with that attitude of yours.

Good call. What Myers did was definitely in response to what McDavid did, so he's less culpable in terms of the code but an equal to suspension with McDavid is fine.

Good job sticking up for your teammate, Tyler. We all hate to see these kinds of things and I'm glad no one was hurt. Dangerous and stupid, yes, but the Canucks have been criticized for their lack of response when their players get cheapshotted so I'm glad that Myers provided and equal and opposite response immediately so that we can move on from it and not carry any bad blood or threat of retribution going into the next game and no lingering question of whether the Canucks team have each other's backs.

Uhhh...he didn't see what happened to Garland. He was too busy getting his hands up while hitting Bouchard then 2-handing him.

When it comes to Myers, not attributing his actions to rational though and intent is probably a good starting point.

Doesn't matter that he didn't see it directly, he was a few feet away on the ice facing the other way and most definitely heard what happened enough to understand the severity of it - which he responded to exactly proportionally by sheer luck.

Bouchard had it coming. Well worth a few games of Myers, to make that POS shut his big mouth.

...and, to be honest, the 'Nucks might be better defensively for the next three games... :thumbu:
