for a more serious issue, something in the vidya james community should get a mention. It's probably lost a bit of momentum at this point, but it persists.

#GamerGate is about corruption in video games journalism, and it's simmering just below mainstream media coverage. Journalist collusion to attack their readers, proof of media constructed narratives, censorship, etc. Interesting stuff.

I didn't know it grew that much. The first I saw was the initial uproar over the female developer having relations with multiple gaming journalists and those journalists giving her game praise. It dropped off my radar after that.

But gaming journalists, sorry I mean "bloggers", attacking their fanbase is beyond idiotic.

It's been strangely resilient to the usual sort of burnout that typically happens with internet "scandals."

well that's probably because the "journalists" involved are basically responding in the exact wrong way every time.

You're seeing a bit of a similar thing in criticism of sports media right now with the lack of talk about why Hope Solo, possibly the biggest female athlete right now, isn't talked about more for a second domestic violence offense, but it hasn't taken the tone of #GamerGate where the financial ties are found, e-mails exposed, etc.

The first domestic violence thing was against Solo the day before she married a handegg guy. I remembering now that it was that people were pissed she stayed with him.

This newer one (from June) is one Solo herself committed against her sister and nephew, so two charges. I got that a bit mixed up.

but the point is that there are people who feel that with the media going hard covering NFL player domestic violence cases, that Solo should be getting similar coverage.

Isn't this similar to "why do national news channels run stories when a little white girl gets kidnapped but ignore when it happens to minorities" question?

They go with whatever is better commercially, not ethically. NFL scandal>>>>>Hope Solo scandal in terms of viewership and click bait.
