If the bolded is a 60's model then that is the coolest piece of gear listed. Those are super nice. I had the bass and wish I never sold it.

I used to be piano refinisher. Since you live in Jersey getting the good lacquer is easy.
Is the Tele a USA made? If not, I would not put my time into refinishing it.
I'm not sure exactly, but it's definitely at least 30. Ampeg apparently relocated to New Jersey in the early 1960s, right next to Newark which is where my dad's side of the family is from. I believe my grandfather got one for free after doing their logo. But the real beauty is the Gretsch. My dad looked into selling it years ago but it wasn't worth enough to justify selling such a beautiful passed-down instrument. Let me see if I can find a picture of it. He was great at guitar; still up for debate whether or not it runs in the family.

It's a Standard Tele, early 2000s, so made in Mexico, and apparently they just dipped the entire body into tubs of polyurethane paint lol. I know in advance that re-finishing an inexpensive and...not-old guitar, is not really worth it, (if it's even possible with this model), but I kind of wanted to gauge to what degree it's not worth it.

Either way thanks a ton for the info. Very interesting, regardless.

Edit: Ah, sweet, found a photo of both:

Very cool thread. Guess i'll give my background....

When I was in my early teens, I had an agent who would send me info regarding broadway plays, commercials, movies and whatnot. Never got anything that led to anything big so I quit after two years of that. In high school, I was in a garage band that almost signed with Sony Records after winning a music contest. That didn't happen because of in-house beef between the drummer and guitarist leading to both leaving the band.

I then went to college, which I just recently graduated from. There I learned a lot about production side of things and am now working with Logic Pro X and Pro Tools. Hopeful to make a stay-at-home studio, but I'm open to hopping from studio to studio.

I primarily play piano and am a vocalist, but I have dabbled with drums, guitar (have an acoustic and a fender), bass, saxophone and am only turning 22 in two weeks.

If anyone wants to collab or want to learn more, send me a PM. Got a background with Alternative, Metal, R&B, Rap, EDM, and film scoring :yo:

I play Guitar Hero and Rock Band :dunno:

Always wanted to learn drums for real, but I'm apprehensive. Not sure where to start and I don't wanna spend a ton of money and then decide "hey, I really suck at this"

Any advice?

Glad you guys are finding this an interesting. I went to bed and no one had touched it so I figured I just made another lame OT thread lol

By the way, if you want to listen to some things I've done...

Some of the compositions I do. I can't do orchestra percussion for the life of me, but two of the tracks are straight up orchestral composition (Shadow of the Forest and Temporal Drift). The others are mostly just synth and electronic. Plenty of percussion. Not EDM, though. I think Meridian is the most recent of those.

This is a band I was in 8 years ago or so.

This is a band I was in when I lived in New York... pre-2005. For some reason, The Source in Question track doesn't work for me, which is a damn shame.

Quality on the myspace stuff isn't so good.

99 Parker Fly Deluxe. I have had this for 17 years. Lots of others have come and gone, but this beast has never been usurped from the number one spot. However, I would love to give a Strandberg Boden Prog a shot, but I need to try one first. Rare as hen's teeth, though.

Re: Film scoring. You have any tips on learning how to score percussion?

Thx. Had it set up today.... awesome. .low. no buzz...

Sweet! Good luck with it. I have not bought a new guitar in years, might be time to look into another. But need to get back into a full band for the motivation. Been doing more open mic acoustic nights as of late.

"No one had touched it."

In case anyone was wondering how highly Auf regarded Ail, look no further than this post.

Your stuff makes me immediately think of video game scores from the 90s. The orchestral tracks I could hear as part of a score of a PC RPG. Not sure what you were going for, but that's what I thought of.

This is a fun thread. I've gotten rid of so much of my gear, but I still have:

2000 Gibson Les Paul Classic
1963 Gibson ES 125
1995 Fender Jazzmaster
1973 Fender Musicmaster bass
Yamaha CP 33
AKG C-414
AKG C-3000
Matched pair AKG C-1000
More SM 57's and 58's than I can count.
Vox AC-15

Everything else is now binary

Yeah. Pretty much everyone tells me I should write for video games haha. I don't really write with an aim in mind, but that's just how it comes out.

If it is a original Ampeg Dan Armstrong from the 1960's they just keep going up. If it is in really good shape with the extra pickup and case, you have a about a 3-4k guitar that just keep going up in value. If it is a reissue from the 1990's than it is still worth about 1500 and going up. They are super collectable. The Gretsch is worth more now but those Dan Armstrongs have a huge following that is growing. Either way nice guitars!

I'll check out the specs on them, they're with my dad. The Gretsch is probably worth 1.5-3k on eBay, not nearly enough to justify selling it.

I was reading up on this company ReRanch's website, they sell supplies online. I think for my Tele it might be possible to just use a heat gun on the poly black finish, and then scrape it off while leaving the primer/sealer/whatnot that's on the wood, then just repainting it with a quality auto-paint spray can. We'll see...I'm just not should if I have enough well-ventilated space.

Thanks again. What kind of music do you play?

I've been playing steadily for 2yrs now after a long hiatus. ..
I love progressive neo classical - malmsteen, macalpine, Gilbert, etc

I play anything from classic rock to 90's alternative. Too many bands to list lol.

Petrucci?

(dunno if the pic is mine from years ago but I found it on google. Same bass, same floor at mom's house. Not sure if that's my toe lol)
Sometimes it loves to be played with a pick and sometimes it loves to be rapidly fingered :)

This is a purely fast and heavy, rock & roll bass.

Cost me the Uncle I never got to meet, Grandma decided I was the chosen one who would end up with it because all I ever wanted to do was play Hockey and Metal.
