I saw Joe B as an opening act for George Thorogood about 5 years ago. He was amazing. I've seen Lonesome George a few times and he puts on a great show. I took my son to the Ventura Theater and we had front row seats. When George came out he tapped the guitar head on my sons head, who was 16 at the time and it was his first concert. He's 30 now and still loves George and The Destroyers.

Just passing along the jams, my friend. It's actually my wife that finds all this music. I was a pretty serious punk fan through the 1990s (graduated from high school in '97). I loved old school stuff like the Germs and Black Flag, I loved new school stuff like Good Riddance, NOFX, Operation Ivy, I loved punk-ska like the Suicide Machines, Less Than Jake, some older ska like the Specials.

But, I got married and had a daughter when I was 20-21, and it really changed me. I know it's cliche, but I pretty much outgrew punk. I woke up one day, and it just didn't really rock anymore. It didn't mean what it once did, and it ceased to define me to myself. At that point, I pretty much ceded music finding duties to my wife, and she has much broader tastes. She got me to sit down and listen to some classic rock like Queen and the Beatles, she introduced me to a lot of British bands (she's Irish, grew up in Cork), and for the past few years it's been a lot of indie rock.

So, with that in mind, I submit my favorite (personal) post-punk band, the Arctic Monkeys.

I feel bad for the girl. It's not her fault that a record company gave her that awful song and basically used her as raw material for manufacturing pop music. I mean, a month ago this girl probably thought she had some kind of future in music. Now, she's an internet joke, a synonym for "suck."

Social Distortion...not quite what they used to be but they will always be my #1
Flogging Molly...totally refreshing sound
D Murphys....different than FM, but i love the irish punk/pub music
Pennywise....old or new i never get tired of them
Face to Face....still surprised they never got bigger
Bad Religion...the latest is crap imo, but still one of the edgiest bands over time
The Clash...never gets old

I use to love Bad Religion so much as a late teen. One Warped tour I saw, Bad Religion, NOFX, Lagwagon. Bosstones, Flogging Molly, Glassjaw, Thursday. That was really good value for money. Lucky that all coincided with a trip to L.A to see my sister. I cant really enjoy any of those bands unless im drunk with friends now. Maybe still Glassjaw. Much like agentfouser I would perfer to put on whatever people say i am, thats what i am not. Anyone know any bands similar to Death from above 1979? I really like their sound but they only have one album
 
Oh, and Bad Religion is the hornet's ****. Greg is a great mind and helped show me, along with my liberal high education, that this world is ****ed.

Due to many reasons I have had to stay somewhat current and with kids (I was 20 when my first was born) who are now in their mid 20's I get spoon fed some amazing music as well. My granny is in Cobh (sp?). She married a fellow who owns part of a paper there called "The corkman" or something like it.

He came over and spent two weeks fishing with me and said that where I live in NewFoundland was allot like Cork in many ways. I think he was just being nice but whatever. I am going to go to visit them next August.


I have Stiff Little Fingers playing "the banks of my own lovely lee" from 86 live.

The Arctic Monkeys are a really good band and have written some good music since their debut record. They sound like a merging of "the last shadow puppets" and "babyshambles" or "The Strokes" to me but I like them.

All good stuff.

They had more soul and grit, IMO, than all other "punk" bands.

Joe Strummer was truly an enigma. His post clash stuff with the mescaleros (on the Global a go-go album) is certainly good but never had the exuberance ands bite of the Clash early and mid-years songs.

I also like Big Audio Dynamite who I understand is making their only US appearance on their comeback tour at Coachella. Its too bad because the Festival shows are really not geared to the older crowd, nor is it conducive to take a young teenager.
 
i hate festivals.

30 minutes of a ******** set geared towards the radio crowd while you are surrounded by people that don't care who is playing while they wait for their favorite band to come on WHILE your other favorite band in playing on the stage on the other side of the grounds. Just to name a few craptastic things about festivals.
 
I mostly listen to Classic Rock and Punk Rock and a few other genres.

Beastie Boys
Gorillaz
The Ramones

and my guilty pleasure Katy Perry
 
I've caught on to Against Me of late, they're good stuff.

EDIT: Muse is outstanding, good call.
 
What most call classical music. The great composers. Select jazz.

Aside from that, I am picky about my rock and punk.

Fauser your wife is a saint. Beatles, old Rolling Stones, Yardbirds, early Aerosmith (Toys in the Attic) early Alice Cooper (Billion Dollar Babies) all deserve a listen. Queen was outstanding. Freddy Mercury that boy could wail! I met Brian May outside the Fabulous Forum before an Aerosmith/Cheap Trick show. That dude is TALL.

Now my wife, she turned me on to Andrea Bocelli. I'll listen if it gets me what I want :naughty:

At The Drive In was pretty good but I was almost kinda glad they broke up. They started to get really annoying towards the end imo. I'm personally a bigger fan of Sparta than I was of At The Drive In and prefer Sparta to Mars Volta. I think those two guys' egos are as big as their afros once were. That record In Casino out has some really good songs on it, though. The first two songs on that record or awesome.

Refused is great. Their last record was really a great record. I'll have to find the clips on youtube but somebody posted some videos of a tour from their last record that is great.

You are soooooo cultured (like curdled milk???)

You weren't so picky as to not enjoy Paramore, the Silversun Pickups and DEVO (not to mention the main attarction -- STP) at last year's weenie roast. ;) :nod: :laugh:
