OT: Music discussion thread

I remember seeing Journey and a few others at Irvine Spectrum in my early 20s and going man, i wonder if the bands I like are gonna do anything like this since there are a million 50 year olds here

Well, here I am in my mid 40s, and here they all are

Yeah I don't think I ever dreamed that one day you'll be able to go to a show and see Sponge play with Testament and Linkin Park. That's quite a mix!

The list of bands on that Sick New World bill is pretty crazy. Both the mix and then the age of some of them.

This album is a strange one. It almost feels like just one 50 track, and it's pretty good. That also makes sense given the concept of the album being what it is.
Im not a huge fan of concept albums, as there typically are fewer tracks that you want to go back and listen to individually. Probably stick with Ghost Reveries, Blackwater Park, etc more when I get the Opeth itch

Favorite concept album is definitely Operation: Mindcrime by Queensryche.

Anyone else into vinyl?
I used to buy vinyl back in the 90's for stuff that wasn't on CD yet or punk/indie 7" singles. I rarely buy it now, but I will sometimes buy stuff on Record Store Day to support the artists and shops. I think the last one I bought was a few years ago when I got a Record Store Day edition of Youth of America by the Wipers.

Great band and record.

I need to fix my record player but I have a few vinyls. Problem is they're pricey, where as my iPod Classic is 15ish years old and still kicking.

That's really how I got started too. I had a relatively small collection of mostly 7" and a handful of LP's from the 90's. When MP3 players became common I started to buy records because they usually came with a free digital download. Now I've got at least 100 LP's and probably another 100 7"s.

I saw him in Vegas awhile back. He was huffing oxygen at the end of the set but its understandable considering his age + it was a pretty hi energy performance for a 70ish year old. Iggy will always be based.

Christmas music time? I remember hearing this on KROQ when it was being broadcast live over the air waaaay back in the day. I recorded it on cassette (probably still have it somewhere) and listened to it a bunch.

The following has been on rotation the last few years. As a plus, it features Toni Halliday from Curve.

My favorite concept album is Jupiter by Cave In. Very aptly named!

I've been spinning the BR Christmas album quite a bit the past few weeks. That and the Charlie Brown Christmas album by Vince Guaraldi.
