Unrelated to Halloween but I very much enjoy the work of Morgan James, here with Postmodern Jukebox, who are apparently playing on Monday night at the Burt. I don't have tickets and to be honest, I'm kind of out of the live music scene thanks to Covid. I wish I'd known they were coming because they're fun and diverse. I also don't know who'd be with them, not that it would matter, based on their videos they employ a variety of very talented singers. But if you're quirky and interested in a variety of covers, check them out.

Morgan James is kinda crazy though. She could sing me the phone book.

As the Kids in the Hall is now on Prime… and I freaking love that show… and love that riff

Thanks for the notice of them being on Prime Srix'... I did not know that....

And I frickin' love Kids In the Hall...

You do realize this will contribute to more gifs being used in HFJets threads, do you not... ?

Loved that show, too. One of my favourite sketches of theirs was "Girl Drink Drunk".

The last time I checked, all the episodes were available on the CBC Gem app.

I had the pleasure of going to a Shadowy Men show here in Winnipeg back in the early 1990s.

Irreverent..

Ballsy...

Mocking...

Thoughtful all the same...

Missing today..

It's solace with a fish slap to the face...

:thumbu:

Another one from Interpol...

And as one of the poster's says on YouTube in the thread with this tune...

"They're so cool, even their instruments smoke"...

... love how Paul Banks lights his cigarette... takes one long draw... then places between strings at the apex of the tuning pegs... and it smolders the whole time he performs... an allegory in itself for this song...

And I love this line..."But if your life is such a big f***ing joke, why should I care?” ....

I must admit I don't suffer fools... especially negative fools.. that line says so much...

I am not a religious man by any means, but I'm not going to lie: every time I heard Handel's "Messiah" chorus, I'm gonna be singing along as sure it was Shatner doing "Common People".

(@kanadalainen would probably appreciate any song with the lyric "omnipotent reigneth")

The best version, by far; Rieu's conducting of the 'other' Hallelujah song by Leonard Cohen, and O Fortuna, and like.. I mean, he could conduct "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown" and it could send a sinner back to church.

The Cathedrals all over the World were built for this...

Natural acoustics and performances like this...

No sound reinforcement needed...

Right? Compare that to the legendarily cursed Paradise Theater in Chicago -- who knew that a theater designed in the era of silent movies might have issues once 'talkies' came loose.

And if this makes me a heathen, then I'm a heathen, but by god, how can those people look SO BORED when they are hearing one of the most culturally significant and awesome pieces of music in their lives? Like, surely God will forgive you if you SMILE, right? Ugh. Anyways. Sorry. Ranters gonna rant.

Sinners are going to Sin...

Our despair if we let it happen comes from letting their failings effect us...

Beginning and end of the that story...

I'd rather be a hero...

"Shut up Agar... play the story"...

You know, as much as makes me a boomer (which I own) to judge performers on their ability to 'clean up nice', I gotta say that for all Bowie's majestic and imaginative costumes in his videos, he cleans up SO nice here.

And yes, I said the same thing about Freddie Mercury, he who once attended a concert in Montreal riding on Darth Vader's shoulders wearing Daisy Duke shorts, an ascot, and a Habs hat and not a damn thing else. For all that the campiest showman in rock history was ever outrageous, never did he blow my mind than when he took the stage like this:

Oh come on people. Like, really? Someone mentions Paradise Theater and you just let it slide by like it's nothing? And you call yourselves Winnipeggers? I feel shame on your behalf.

Yes. Yes I did have a crush on Jessica Harper. I was ten. What did you expect?

Everybody needs a little beef. Wait...

Coming back around to these guys. Missed them when they initially came out. Local radio sucked, badly. Went to Sirius, still didn't find them. Youtube algorithm helped, but honestly, why do I have to try to reset it? Are people really so conditioned that they don't want to find new music?
