Quesnel, B.C.
So, here in B.C. we’re on the verge of going back to Phase 2 in the COVID-19 protocol. I took some time off last month so that my Wife & I could travel down to Nanaimo (on the East Coast of Vancouver Island) to visit our oldest daughter and family. We were concerned that we might not see them again until Spring or next summer, so we just said “f*** it” let’s take x-mas gifts and b-day presents down & connect before winter hits.

Of course we continued to respect all the cautionary measures and able to give our younger Gingers some great memories.

That all said, the signature memory of this trip came on the way down to Vancouver. As most of you already know, I’m immature and the condition is not likely to improve.

There are several tunnels en route south as one travels to the BC Lower Mainland. I roll all the windows down as we drive through each tunnel and honk the horn multiple times.

One point I should add is that when we travel, we do a rotation in regards to picking songs.

So, as we’re approaching one of the longer ones, my teenage Ginger picked:

I roll the windows down and start honking. As we leave the tunnel I roll the windows up as usual. However, over the sound of myself and the Gingers belting out the song, my Wife, the Silver Fox is yelling at me.

I look over to see that her long hair is caught in the window and she’s not happy with me, telling me to roll window down in very clear terms. I do so, while mentioning that she could have done so as well since they are power windows and the control is under her right hand. For some reason, this information was not welcomed at that time.

Once we understood just what happened we were approaching another tunnel. I used my turn to repeat the song and started singing, “Welcome to the Tunnel!” and my Gingers started adding lines to the song about losing hair, etc. I’m so proud.

At first the Silver Fox was not impressed, but quickly joined in, with her finger hovering over her window control. From that point forward we only had 3 windows down through each tunnel.

Edit: for context- I post this now as I’m back home this weekend and my Gingers were singing this song in parody form today when the Silver Fox came back from her hair appointment.

Love this Thread btw.

Don't recall any Shinedown in here. They get a kind of "Nickelback-y" rap now as they've become a little softer than their earlier work so not sure how many here are fans. I didn't really know them much at all as they get little radio play locally, or did prior to my first seeing them. I also haven't found many stations on Sirius that plays them.

The first time I saw them they opened for Kiss at MTS. Now understand I'm a huge Kiss fan, having seen them in various iterations, in and out of makeup, going back to the late 1970s. My mom was adamantly opposed to Kiss as the church had decided it stood for Knights in Satan's Service. So yeah. I remember the early comic books that had the words printed in red ink that was tainted with the blood of the band (yeah, sure). So A. I'm really frickin' old and B. I'm a big Kiss fan (world's most impressive marketing machine, possibly behind the Catholic Church and Disney). When I saw Shinedown they absolutely kicked Kiss' ass out of the building. It was an incredible show and felt very intimate and very powerful.

I love their earlier work as more modern hard rock (they'd have been hardcore heavy metal in the 70s) and very much appreciate their more modern work for all its done for mental health affected individuals. Some very powerful, if soft, messages in their later work.
