I don't think Vancouver wants a 3M+ player likely to end up on LTIR, who will at best slot in as a 3d or 4th liner.

I also don't think Montreal wants to move a rare hardworking veteran, or retain and lose that cap space even if Gallagher ends up on LTIR.

Neither team does this.

I don't get the rationale of this other than "send Vancouver guy home" and forwards are the least of our concerns. Now, if we wanna talk Guhle or Matheson, that's more inline with our needs.

Problem? lol
Guhle is unlikely to get moved. Matheson is a rare veteran on a young team, and a local guy to boot, but I could see him get moved if Vancouver is willing to give up significant value.

No pain no gain, don't wanna end up like the Sabres or Wings. In Gary's NHL a small market Canadian team with the worst ownership if NA pro sports has to do what it has to do
Sure I agree but Habs enough talent overall to not have to finish dead last anymore. They need a winning culture and progression more than anything else

Vancouver really doesn't need an overpaid 3rd liner. A defence upgrade and/or a bona fide Top-6 forward are the obvious needs. Anything else is probably...not really worth doing. In fact, with Dakota Joshua coming back...they can reunite one of the best third lines in the league, which plays hard, structured, gritty hockey and scores at a more or less Top-6 rate at even strength.

I also don't really think Montreal would necessarily want to move Gallagher either. His cap isn't really an issue for them right now and he's a perfect culture carrier/tone setter/role model in his effort and work ethic.

Gallagher is a Vancouver fan,
He is still kicking good, overpaid yes but a real good 3rd liner and a playoff play type of player, charging the net.

What if MTL retained 50% , pretty sure he's got a bit of value at that price.
And tbh he is fun to Watch play.

MTL : Gally (50%)
to
VAN : 4th 2025

Zero chance Habs would retain that much for that little... Doubt they'd retain at all to move him right now, but if they did it'd be for a quality return, not a late pick.

Vancouver needs defence and goaltending, not overpriced 3rd liners
As a fan of both teams, pretty sure VAN would do this in a heartbeat even though most likely another team would be used to retain 25% even for a 3rd or a 4th rounder. Gallagher at 1.7m is a great add in your bottom 6.

MTL however would not do this. They have no cap issues and Gallagher is one of the only players ready to pay the price on an otherwise very soft roster.

No 3rd team is retaining 25% for 3 years for a 3rd or 4th round pick. Not a single chance. Gally at 1.7 is nice but that retention comes at a price no matter who the player is, for that reasons he will remain on the Habs until he is expiring.

Montreal retains all that money, for multiple years, gives up the guy who's second on their team in goals and one of their few veteran leaders ... and they do that to get a 4th round draft pick?

That's idiotic.

Yep

Like others've said, we need more Gally's veteran leadership presence than the cap space or the 4th Rd pick..

Even less if 3,25 mil has to be retained for +/- 2,5 years...

And Vancouver don't need Gally...

So...

I mean have you seen the games this year? Gally is basically one of the few vets with actual leadership and he produces.

Getting rid of all 3 of those contracts will not be easy. You have to find a team that can both afford and want those players...
now to mention what has to come back in return. One of the things those three veterans are doing now is keeping 3 youngsters down in a Laval team that is doing pretty well and winning. Getting rid of them right now would probably bring up Roy, Beck and Barré Boulet (tuch? kidney? etc). Some will say "they cant be worse", but I think it is beneficial to keep things this way until we are sure they are ready.

Armia and Dvorak are god awful for what they are paid. I would give them up in a heartbeat, but is Beck ready for full time 3rd/4C missions?

I don't think Gally is worth his contract at the moment, but he definitely isn't hurting the team either. Given our cap situation, I dont see harm in keeping him as he is a positive influence - i think he brings more to our youngsters than the forth that is offered, so i would keep him.

For Montreal maybe.
Not really. Gallagher is a heart & soul type of player. He have to retain 3M+ for 3 years for a 4th? Come on. Gallagher scored the winning goal for the Habs tonight against the Oilers tonight. In fact the Anderson-Dvorak-Gallagher line is the only one line the Habs can count on all year.

No reason for either team to do this. If we want to eat salary we could take a cap dump from a contender for a lot more than a 4th.

Gally isn't hurting anyone where he is now, has been playing good, and he's a fan favorite.
