I don't think Vancouver wants a 3M+ player likely to end up on LTIR, who will at best slot in as a 3d or 4th liner.

I also don't think Montreal wants to move a rare hardworking veteran, or retain and lose that cap space even if Gallagher ends up on LTIR.

Neither team does this.

I don't get the rationale of this other than "send Vancouver guy home" and forwards are the least of our concerns. Now, if we wanna talk Guhle or Matheson, that's more inline with our needs.

Problem? lol
Guhle is unlikely to get moved. Matheson is a rare veteran on a young team, and a local guy to boot, but I could see him get moved if Vancouver is willing to give up significant value.

No pain no gain, don't wanna end up like the Sabres or Wings. In Gary's NHL a small market Canadian team with the worst ownership if NA pro sports has to do what it has to do
Sure I agree but Habs enough talent overall to not have to finish dead last anymore. They need a winning culture and progression more than anything else

Vancouver really doesn't need an overpaid 3rd liner. A defence upgrade and/or a bona fide Top-6 forward are the obvious needs. Anything else is probably...not really worth doing. In fact, with Dakota Joshua coming back...they can reunite one of the best third lines in the league, which plays hard, structured, gritty hockey and scores at a more or less Top-6 rate at even strength.

I also don't really think Montreal would necessarily want to move Gallagher either. His cap isn't really an issue for them right now and he's a perfect culture carrier/tone setter/role model in his effort and work ethic.

Gallagher is a Vancouver fan,
He is still kicking good, overpaid yes but a real good 3rd liner and a playoff play type of player, charging the net.

What if MTL retained 50% , pretty sure he's got a bit of value at that price.
And tbh he is fun to Watch play.

MTL : Gally (50%)
to
VAN : 4th 2025

Zero chance Habs would retain that much for that little... Doubt they'd retain at all to move him right now, but if they did it'd be for a quality return, not a late pick.

Vancouver needs defence and goaltending, not overpriced 3rd liners
As a fan of both teams, pretty sure VAN would do this in a heartbeat even though most likely another team would be used to retain 25% even for a 3rd or a 4th rounder. Gallagher at 1.7m is a great add in your bottom 6.

MTL however would not do this. They have no cap issues and Gallagher is one of the only players ready to pay the price on an otherwise very soft roster.

No 3rd team is retaining 25% for 3 years for a 3rd or 4th round pick. Not a single chance. Gally at 1.7 is nice but that retention comes at a price no matter who the player is, for that reasons he will remain on the Habs until he is expiring.
