Proposal: MTL-PIT

To MTL:
Rickard Rakell
Vasily Ponomarev
2025 3rd Round Pick

To PIT:
Kirby Dach
Arber Xhekaj

What needs to be added/taken away from each side to get a deal done?
Habs are short at center, any Dach trade proposal needs a C coming back.
Habs don‘t have a lot of tough players and Xhekaj is the best of them, so he likely won t be traded.
I don t think a deal is to be made here.

Habs will keep Xhekaj and Rackell doesn't really fit even though he's a good piece

I don't watch a lot of Habs but what is Dach's deal? Looks like he's put good 3rd line numbers while not PKing and being terrible on the dot. Does he project to be a 2nd line centre?

Definitely wouldn't trade Rakell right now, he'll end up with 30+ goals, 60+ points this season.

This deal sucks for the Penguins, getting younger doesn’t mean anything if you’re getting way worse doing it. A tough guy bottom pair D and a struggling former high pick is a crappy return for the Penguins.

Rakell is on pace for like 40 goals and 70 points this year, he alone should be able to get a way better return than this from a contending team.

He missed all of last season recovering from knee surgery. He was awful to start the season and looked like he was afraid to take any contact. He seems to be getting his confidence back and is starting to look like the player they hoped he'd be when they acquired him

Montreal would not be in the market for any of these players. Rakell is to old to fit what Montreal's rebuild plan and plays the wrong position for who Montreal's looking for, Montreal doesn't need mid round picks and Montreal's got lots of prospects like Ponomarev.

The value sucks for the Penguins and the players don't make sense for the Habs.

Only if you value rackell exclusively off his career year half season he's having and not on the rest of his 700+ game career. He's a good second liner, not a consistent 40 goal scorer. He hasn't broken 30 goals in 7 seasons and he was only half a point per game last season. Let's not go nuts.

Great, now tell us about Kirby Dach...
