The kind of trade neither side should consider.

Galchenyuk is producing at an elite level over a fairly decent sample size, is younger, and is RFA at the end of the year. He should be signed longterm at a reasonable cap-hit based on his comparables.

Tavares is the Islanders franchise. He's also a more proven commodity, and the captain of his team. The Islanders' focus will undoubtedly be to resign him. There's really no point in moving him for a player such as Galchenyuk unless you know he won't resign. Otherwise, there's no real upside to that deal.

Vague idioms don't disprove my point.

When it's Tavares for Gally, Tavares will be a UFA in 2 years and Gally is still improving and under team control.

When it's Price for Sorokin, Price being a UFA in 2 years, Sorokin still improving and under team control are all ignored and dismissed.

Now that OUR franchise player is on the table the same parameters don't apply. Why? No other reason except fans talking up their own assets and talking down the other team's. Can't just go "yeah, teams don't like trading franchise players for prospects who might one day get that good, even if the franchise player only has 2 years left on their contract". Nope, it has to turn into an argument that Carey Price is like a hundred times more valuable than Tavares because Habs fans say he is.

Any attempts to put the shoe on the other foot are completely invalid because I'm wearing designer loafers and you're wearing Payless.

There's a big difference.
Right now 2 are franchise players ,one is on his way to becoming a superstar.
The other is a nobody.
Like one poster has said , Use better analogies to make your point not one that everyone laughs at.

Always love when people on the internet go to the "everybody is laughing at you" well when in fact, nobody is laughing at me. When you need to imagine people who support your argument, it's weak.

Also Sorokin is one of the top goaltending prospects in hockey. Calling him a nobody and Gally "on his way to becoming a superstar" is again pulling the "I wear expensive loafers you wear Payless" argument. And literally everyone agrees with me and is laughing at you.

To bad no one agrees with you.

Sorokin to Price is not a good analogy when talking Chucky to Tavares.
It's actually laughable.
