Never had more then 29 points in a season or more then 13 goals. I know points aren’t everything but he’s almost useless. Also about to turn 30. However 2.9 is pennies so it’s fine.
He's an excellent PK center, skates well, and wins key face-offs. He's a 3/4C. With Dvorak gone, he'll be 3C next year and Beck likely to be #4. He'll be 29 in June, so that isn't exactly "about to turn 30".

Great signing.

Will be interesting to see how this holds up over next 4 years relative to the deals that get done this summer. My guess is that Evans will stand out by far as one of the best value contracts signed.

KH showing the payoff of building a culture players want to be a part of & willing to leave $ on the table to do so.

You just contradicted yourself in your post. You are right, points aren't everything. Most of Evans' value comes on the D side of the puck.

I just fine it curious that he went from trade candidate to a new contract.

How is it curious? He was a pending UFA on a team that isn't committed to seriously selling at the deadline and isn't a buyer. Trade or sign is often the choices for teams in that position.

Because the ask from his camp was reported to be 5 years and $4 million per. At that amount, you trade him. If that was accurate, Hughes stuck to his guns and Evans decided to stay, feeling that the being part of the group was more important.

Um he is one of the best penalty killers in the league. And will pass 30 points this year. Almost useless is a ridiculous statement.

100k per point for a defensive forward has been the standard for a long time.

This is really not the steal that people are making it out to be.

Evans has been living off the hype train from his unusually good start of season (24 points in 37 games in 2024) but since the new year, he's got 5 points in 24 games.

That's still a good deal for both parties. He really is a good penalty killer and very dependable and he obviously wanted to stay in an environment that has worked out for him. I think that considering the many injuries he's suffered, he wisely chose long term security over potentially extracting an extra 250k on the free market.

If Evans had 15 points this season, this deal is still a steal for what he brings. The offense is just a nice bonus.

There's zero chance he only left $250K on the table. AT LEAST $500K, if not substantially more depending on term.

He took a discount to be able to stay. That's an endorsement to the program that Hughes and gorton are building in that he's willing to forego his prime pay day opportunity to be a part of this group.

The cap hit is really $3,562,500 per year when you add the 25% tariff.

Just to be clear: You really do want Yanni Gourde, but you really didn't want Jake Evans?

I If Eavans was to come in as the 4C that would be different.

But my team needs a 3C and I do think Yanni Gourde is a better fit, plus he's got championship pedigree.

I want as many players with championship pedigree as possible.

He's a 4th C who can fill in at 3rd C/ kills penalties well. Decent at faceoffs and defensively. Will be 32 at the end of the 4th season of this contract. Not sure why you'd consider him useless, especially at that contract.

He seems like a decent 3c at a great number if he doesn’t regress. There’s a tiny bit of risk with the term though if he does regress, but overall this seems like a good move.

Wow. Nice job by the Habs GM once again. I thought he'd get around $4MM per.
He could’ve on the open market. That’s for sure.
Yup, 7.6 million/year is fantastic value for a 50 point winger......
We’re talking about Slafkovsky here? Because if so, he’s still making 990k this year. Less than a milly for a 50 pts player is pretty f*cking good if you ask me.

One of the best pker in the league. He’s going to blow through his 29 points career high as he’s got 28 so far in 60 games this year
